The witnesses to the fatal plane crash recalled it crashing into the ground and witnessing a huge fireball.
For the unversd, the plan was identified as a Beech B200 Super King Air, which had departed at 3:48 p.m. and was en route to Lelystad, Netherlands. An eyewitness revealed that he saw a huge fireball from his window, and he was shaking after witnessing the crash. Hill was quoted as saying:
"I saw the huge fireball from my window. I’m still shaking like mad. I’ve never seen anything like it. Praying all involved are OK."
Staff and players, who were at Rochford Hundred Gold Club, which shares a boundary with the airport, also experienced the shockwaves from the fatal crash. Barman James Philpott from the club recalled the terrifying experience. He shared that he was standing in a hut when he heard the huge heat wave. When he looked up, there was a huge fireball above him. He said:
"I was standing in a hut when I heard this huge heat wave go through. I looked up and there was this huge fireball high up above me, maybe 100 feet. It was like I was being cooked."
It is worth mentioning that as a precautionary measure, the golf course was evacuated straight away. The emergency services set a huge perimeter around the scene of the crash. Another eyewitness, Mr. John Johnson, who was at the airport with his wife and children, revealed how, after takeoff, within three to four seconds, the plane started banking heavily to its left. In an interaction with Associated Press, he said:
"It took off and about three or four seconds after taking off, it started to bank heavily to its left, and then within a few seconds of that happening, it more or less inverted and crashed just head-first into the ground."
John also revealed that they were waving at the pilots of the plane, and they all waved back to them. But within a few seconds after takeoff, it banked hard to the left and went straight down. He said:
"We all waved at the pilots, and they all waved back at us. Then the aircraft powered up, rolled down the runway, and took off. But just a few seconds later, it banked hard to the left, inverted, and went straight down. It crashed headfirst. There was a huge fireball."
