Family Bids Adieu To Clive Kunder, Co-Pilot Of The Doomed Flight, Mortal Remains Brought Home

June 12, 2025, will forever remain one of the darkest days in Indian history. For the unversed, a few days back, on June 12, 2025, an Air India flight crashed soon after its takeoff from Ahmedabad’s international airport, which was bound for London. With 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew members and 2 pilots, the Air India Boeing 787-8 plane crashed into residential quarters of the BJ Medical College. Now, on June 19, 2025, the mortal remains of Clive Kunder, the co-pilot of the doomed flight, were brought to Mumbai for the last rites.

Clive Kunder, was the first operating officer and the co-pilot of the ill-fated Air India flight, who lost his life in the tragic plane crash. He was assisting Captain Sumeet Sabharwal on the doomed flight, which was bound for London. Clive, the Mumbai-based pilot, was a resident of Karnataka. According to a report by India Today, Clive’s mortal remains arrived at Mumbai airport and then were taken to his residence in Goregaon West, Mumbai, where his family paid him tribute and bid him adieu. His last rites were performed at the Sewri Christian Cemetery, Mumbai. His funeral began at 2:30 pm on June 19, 2025. According to multiple reports, Bollywood actor, Vikrant Massey is the family friend of Clive Kunder.

Vikrant Massey offered his condolences to Clive Kunder’s family

Soon after the tragic incident, there was a buzz that Vikrant Massey had lost his cousin in the horrific Ahmedabad plane crash. Following the buzz, the actor took to his Instagram Stories to clarify his relationship with Clive Kunder, who lost his life in the tragic plane crash. The Broken But Beautiful actor said that Clive was not his cousin, but he was his family friend. He later offered condolences to everyone who lost their loved ones in the crash and also mentioned Clive’s family in the heartfelt note. In his words:

"My heart breaks for the families & loved ones of the ones who lost their lives in the unimaginably tragic air crash in Ahmedabad today. It pains even more to know that my uncle, Clifford Kunder, lost his son, Clive Kunder who was the 1st officer operating on that fateful flight. May God give strength to you and your family, uncle, and all deeply affected."

More about the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash

For the uninitiated, on June 12, 2025, afternoon, the Air India Boeing 787-8 flight took off from the Ahmedabad international airport and was bound for London, carrying 242 people, including 230 passengers, 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew members. But within minutes, the Air India AI171 crashed into the BJ Medical College. Later, it was confirmed that the tragic crash claimed the lives of 241 people on board, with only one survivor.

Former Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, was among the people who lost their lives in the terrifying crash. In a tragic turn of events, the death toll went above claiming 265 innocent people in the Ahmedabad plane crash. One thing that is worth mentioning is that the two pilots who were in control of the doomed flight, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, had an experience of 8,200 hours of flying, whereas the first Officer and co-pilot, Clive Kunder, had a flying experience of 1,100 hours.
