Farah Khan is one of the most phenomenal choreographers and directors in the Bollywood film industry. Besides being a choreographer and filmmaker, Farah Khan is also a talented YouTuber. She started her journey on YouTube in 2024 with her cook, Dilip and now their banter has become the talk of the town. However, Farah Khan’s personal life was not as successful as her career. In a recent podcast, she discussed the struggles she faced as a child due to her father’s career decline.
In a recent conversation with Sania Mirza on the Serving It Up with Sania podcast, Farah Khan spoke about the struggles she faced as a child. Recalling the tough phase, the Om Shanti Om filmmaker shared that her dad, Kamran Khan, had a career setback, which led them to sell their flats. For the uninitiated, Kamran was once a celebrated film producer, but when his films' performance stopped performing well at the box office, everything went downhill. Recalling the harsh family life, Farah said:
"It was uncertain. We had a whole floor, and then we started selling flats. Finally, we came to a one hall and one bedroom, after coming from five bedrooms and a huge hall, which he couldn't sell because they were under my mom's name. So that hall, in the afternoon, was given to the people to come and play cards."

She further mentioned that lending the hall for card playing was a small source of income. A small amount of Rs. 30 to Rs. 35 was spent on milk and vegetables. She mentioned that whenever people didn’t come to play cards one day, there was no money to buy milk the next day. She later said that when two extra people came to their hall to play cards, they would get excited because it brought in extra money. In her words:
"Those Rs. 30-35 were used to buy milk for the next day, little bhaaji and my dad's quarter or half bottle. If they didn't come to play for whatever reason, there was no milk for the next day. If two extra people came, we used to get excited that now we will get mutton today."

In the same podcast, the Happy New Year director described how they felt uncertain in their life. She revealed that it was a hand-to-mouth condition for her family. She also opened up about her childhood trauma that she had to face due to her father’s alcoholism. Farah mentioned that she used to spend extra hours in college to stay away from home. In her words:
"It was literally hand-to-mouth. It's a very depressive place to come back from. To see my dad like that, I can smell alcohol so well whenever I travel, it triggers a childhood memory for me. I used to stay in college till 6:30-7 so that I didn't have to go home. Till now, I am insecure about money. I understood why my dad took to alcohol."
