Farhan Akhtar Opens Up On Rift Of His Mother, Honey Irani And Yash Chopra Over 'DDLJ', 'Unfortunate'

Farhan Akhtar, who is currently enjoying the success of his latest war film, 120 Bahadur, which is based on the real life Battle Of Rezang La, recently opened up about an incident involving his mother, Honey Irani and Yash Chopra. For the unversed, Honey Irani is a screenwriter, who wrote DDLJ. But she was never given credit for it, which caused a rift between her and Yash Chopra. Read on to know what Farhan Akhtar has to say on the same.

Farhan Akhtar called the incident ‘unfortunate’

Recently, during a candid conversation with Mid-Day, Farhan Akhtar opened up about the rift between his mother, Honey Irani and Yash Chopra after the former’s name was missing from the credits of DDLJ. He shared that even after the heartbreaking incident, the two and their families are still close friends and can rely on each other whenever needed. He was quoted as saying:

"It was heartbreaking for all concerned. The relationship that my mom shared, we shared with Yash Chopra; his wife, Pamela Chopra, was like one family. For me, Uday and Adi are still my brothers, and I am glad that all of them are behind us."

Farhan Akhtar continued to reveal that despite unfortunate events, one should be forgiving and Honey Irani did the same. He further continued that even though his mother was deeply hurt and affected by it, she eventually forgave everyone and moved on. In his words:

"Things happen between people who love each other, and at some point, you have to move on by forgiving and forgetting. So I am glad that happened because they are important people in all our lives. What happened was unfortunate; now the silver lining is it’s all behind us, and everyone has moved on graciously."

When Honey Irani spoke about her role in writing the story of DDLJ

Earlier, in Anupama Chopra’s book, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: A Modern Classic, screenwriter, Honey Irani had opened up about her role in the scripting of the film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. She recalled several early morning meetings with Aditya Chopra and also went to Switzerland with the team. 

During the same, Honey also revealed that even though Aditya did a lot of work, she also deserved credit for her work. For the unversed, DDLJ, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol still holds the record for the longest-running Hindi film. The film is widely known as a milestone in the film industry. DDLJ is also considered to be the best film of Aditya Chopra.
