Farhan Akhtar is a well-known filmmaker and actor in Bollywood. Despite being the son of famous screenwriter, Javed Akhtar, Farhan made his separate identity with his work. Apart from his successful professional front, his personal life also made news. From his parent's divorce to his father's second marriage and his own divorce, Farhan dealt with a lot of issues in his personal life. In a recent interview, Farhan opened up about how he took to alcohol in the initial years of his life, which stressed out his mother, Honey Irani.
Recently, Farhan Akhtar sat down for an interview with journalist, Faye D'Souza on her YouTube channel. During his conversation, the actor recalled anecdotes from his youth, including his drinking habit. The filmmaker shared that his mother was single and worked hard to raise him and his sister, Zoya Akhtar. So, she had a difficult time dealing with Farhan's drinking habit. He was quoted as saying:

"She was a single mother, taking care of Zoya and me. She was working. So, the last thing I think she needed at that time was one of her kids just being like that. I was drinking and doing a lot of other things like that."
Farhan continued and admitted he was drinking alcohol at that time and doing several other things. All of it impacted his mother, and she asked him to go and live with his father, Javed Akhtar for some time because she couldn't handle it. Her mother's words made him realise his mistake and how he was adding to his mother's stress. As a result, he turned the feeling into his motivation to quit drinking. In his words:
"At that moment when I saw the effect of that on her, and when it came to a head with her, she was just like, 'Listen, I have tried my best with you, but I can't. Maybe you go and live with your dad for a bit.' I felt like I failed her as a son. That was the first time I felt horrible in the pit of my stomach like she doesn't deserve this. Not like I was treating her badly, but I was adding to her stress, which she didn't need at that time. That horrible feeling motivated me to go out and start working."
In a previous interview with Mojo Story, Farhan's father, Javed Akhtar, revealed his alcoholism problem, which lasted for more than 20 years. He reflected that the habit impacted his marriage with his first wife, Honey Irani, and even his second wife, Shabana Azmi, before he quit drinking. The Indian screenwriter further shared his regret for his behaviour and accepted that his relationship with Honey could have been better if he had been sober.
On the work front, Farhan last produced, Madgaon Express. He is working on making Don 3, which will star Ranveer Singh. He will also produce films like Agni, Yudhra, and Ground Zero.
