Actor-filmmaker-producer, Farhan Akhtar took the internet down when he announced the return of the Don franchise with a heartwarming post. The news was nothing less than a dream come true for the movie buffs, who had been waiting for 'Don' with bated breath. Now, Farhan has finally revealed the new 'Don' aka Ranveer Singh, who will be replacing Shah Rukh Khan in the film. However, netizens are not happy with it.
On August 9, 2023, Farhan Akhtar shared a new teaser of Don 3, which introduces Ranveer Singh as the new face of the franchise and its loyal fans. The teaser showed Ranveer sitting in a high-rise building with his back facing the camera. The actor looked suave in a leather jacket and boots, as he smoked a cigarette before facing the camera and introducing himself as 'Don'. Sharing the teaser, Farhan wrote:
“A New Era Begins #Don3.”

Well, it looks like netizens are not happy with Ranveer Singh replacing Shah Rukh Khan in the film, Don 3. They flooded the post's comment section and started expressing their displeasure over the same. Reacting to the video, one user penned, "No one replaces SRK as DON...DON3 will be biggest disaster like Aadipurush." Meanwhile, another one commented, "Abhi bhi waqt hai, reconsider your casting or else you're just up for a flop. Voiceover tak mei koi impact nahi hai."
Released in 2006, the film, Don starred Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Boman Irani in the lead roles. For the unversed, Farhan's directorial was a remake of 1978's Don, featuring Amitabh Bachchan as the lead, and it won Best Asian Film at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival. Later, the film's sequel was released in 2011 and was declared a hit. Taking to his Instagram handle on August 08, 2023, Farhan shared a note hinting at a new era of Don and penned:
“It was 1978 when the nation witnessed the rage of Don for the first time with superstar Mr Amitabh Bachchan playing the lead. While the first film continues to hold its charm, Excel Entertainment is delighted to announce the directorial homecoming of Farhan Akhtar's Don. The time has now come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have long admired. A new era of Don begins in 2025.”

According to a report in KoiMoi, Farhan Akhtar waited for Shah Rukh Khan to agree to do the film, Don 3, for ten long years. A source close to the director revealed that the decision to find another actor as SRK's replacement was taken after SRK denied the role. Adding that Farhan can not even think of another actor for Don than SRK, the source said:
“Aapko lagta hai ke Farhan kissi doosre actor ke baare mein soch bhi sakta hai? But Shah Rukh wouldn’t budge over his decision not to do another film in the Don Franchise. He felt he had given whatever he had to give to Don in his two Don films.”
