Farida Jalal is one of the most-loved actresses in the film industry. She is immensely praised for her roles in Shararat, Taarzan, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and several others. However, even at the age of 76, the actress has once again surprised us with an unexpected dialogue in the recently released teaser for O' Romeo. In a recent conversation, Farida reflected on why she agreed to it.
Farida Jalal is the epitome of motherly essence. However, she delivered an unexpected dialogue in the O' Romeo teaser, leaving the fans stunned. The actress entered Vishal Bhardwaj's world of gangsters and is playing a role no Bollywood buff could have ever imagined her in. In the teaser featuring Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Disha Patani, Farida casually and convincingly used a curse word, leaving the internet stunned.

Now reacting to the waves created by our innocent-looking Farida Jalal cussing, the actress has shared how the scene actually happened. The actress recalled her first conversation with Vishal and told Zoom that he was on her list of favourite directors and that she wanted to tick him off her bucket list. However, when the director approached her for the film, he asked one question. She was quoted as saying:
"Vishal Bhardwaj was on my list of favourite directors. I ticked off one more box after Sanjay Leela Bhansali. When he came to the house and sat across, I told him, 'I ticked off one more director from my wish list, as I have been wanting to work with you.' He said, 'Farida Ji, sabse pehle ek baat poochni thi', Maine kahan, haan poochiye?' He asked, 'Aap gaali dengi na?'"

In the same conversation, Farida Jalal further revealed that she didn't know what to say to Vishal Bhardwaj's question. She shared that she was extremely overwhelmed. However, she didn't want to give up working on the project. She added:
"Nahin rehne dijiye, chhod dijiye – aise toh main bolne wali nahin thi. This man, with whom I always wanted to work, sat across me. All I said is nangi nangi, gandi gandi gaaliyan main nahin dungi. Chhoti wali, mamuli-si ho toh de sakti hu. Mere hisaab se zyada nangi, gandi nahi thi. Ma-behen toh nahin bolungi. He started laughing and understood where I came from."

Farida Jalal further reflected on her role in the film, O' Romeo and the uproar the internet has had over the dialogue. She shared that she was fully committed to her character and did what she had to do for it. For the unversed, O' Romeo will be hitting the theatres on Valentine's Day 2026. According to reports, it is based on the story of Hussain Ustara and Sapna Didi. Farida was quoted as saying:

"I have said this only once in the film, and look at the uproar. Look at the comments on the internet! People are saying Farida Jalal ne yeh bola, humara pyari Dadi/Maa ne yeh bola. They have seen me since childhood, and I have also stayed away from such dialogues, but it is okay. This is because the character speaks in a certain way. She is always in a temper. If you say yes to a role, you have to go all the way for it."
