After being removed from Netflix, the show is set to return on March 31, 2026. The news is definitely a pleasant surprise for all the fans of the cult show.

Why was F.R.I.E.N.D.S. removed from Netflix?

The popular series was set in NYC and depicted a fictionalised story of six 20- to 30-year-olds as they navigate their life and their challenges. From heartbreaks to flings, emotional moments, and more, Friends told the story of six friends who have been with each other through all the highs and lows. To pump up the excitement, the show featured several guest stars, including Bruce Willis, Robin Williams, and Julia Roberts.

The American show, which ended in 2004, remained one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. However, the streaming giant decided to remove the show because it was paying between USD 80 and USD 100 million per year to retain the streaming rights. However, the deal ended on December 30, 2025, and Netflix decided not to renew the expensive licensing rights. However, when the show was removed, Netflix added a ‘Remind Me’ button to notify viewers of the show’s possible return, leaving a little ray of hope for fans.

Friends had been available to watch on Netflix since January 2018. Many users opted to watch the show either for the first time or to rewatch it as a 'comfort show'. Talking about the same, the show's executive producer, Marta Kauffman, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that 'Monica' and 'Chandler's pairing garnered a lot of excitement among the fans, and that the makers decided that the former's pairing with 'Joey' eventually would not fit in. Another unknown fact about the series is that Jennifer didn't like her iconic haircut from the show. What was known as 'The Rachel' haircut was tagged as 'cringy' by her.
