The ongoing controversy surrounding Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has been at its peak ever since he promoted his latest release, Sardaar Ji 3, with the Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir. Amid the ongoing debates surrounding the ban on Diljit from Indian projects, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has officially lifted the ban on his upcoming film, Border 2, after the film’s producer, Bhushan Kumar, pleaded with the federation. However, the storm is far from over.
After days of mounting speculation and social media chatter, FWICE President, BN Tiwari, confirmed that the ban on Diljit Dosanjh has now been revoked for his upcoming project, Border 2. The decision comes after Bhushan Kumar made a heartfelt plea to let the singer-actor complete his work on Border 2, considering the high stakes of this sequel to the iconic 1997 film, Border. BN Tiwari confirmed with India Today:
“Yes, the ban has been revoked for this project.”
Earlier this week, Diljit himself seemingly addressed the controversy when he dropped a behind-the-scenes clip from the set on his social media. The Sardaar Ji actor was seen dressed in an army uniform as he headed to film a dance sequence. His Instagram post, captioned ‘BORDER 2’, seemed like a subtle hint shutting down rumours surrounding his replacement.
While Diljit’s ban has been lifted, it looks like the storm is far from over. Even as the ban is lifted for this one project, FWICE member and filmmaker Ashoke Pandit issued a sharp warning to the industry if anyone casts him for any further projects. This disapproval comes particularly in light of Diljit’s collaboration with Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. Pandit said:
“So, we have non-cooperation against Diljit continuing. Anyone else who casts him must be prepared for consequences. The Federation won’t be responsible for the financial losses that might follow.”
The controversy began when Sardaar Ji 3, starring Diljit and Hania Aamir, was released overseas on June 27, 2025, just months after the Pahalgam terror attack in India. Amid heightened national sentiment and the ongoing Indo-Pak tensions that have banned all Pakistani artists, Diljit’s move didn’t sit well with Indian audiences.

FWICE viewed Diljit’s collaboration with a Pakistani artist as an ‘unpatriotic act’, following which it wrote letters to producers working with the singer-actor, including Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and director Anurag Singh. The federation also requested Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah to deny Border 2 shoots at military locations like the National Defence Academy. A part of FWICE’s letter read:
“The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), representing the core workforce of the Indian film and television industry, is deeply disappointed and concerned by the casting of actor-singer Mr Diljit Dosanjh in your upcoming film Border 2… By choosing to collaborate with an artist who has so brazenly ignored the ongoing tensions and national sentiment, your production has directly undermined the stand taken by the Indian film industry in solidarity with the nation.”
Despite having pleaded for Diljit’s inclusion in Border 2, Bhushan Kumar reportedly told FWICE that he would not work with the singer-actor again. As of now, Border 2 stars Diljit along with Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, Rashmika Mandanna, and Sonam Bajwa.
