The Mexican entertainment industry is mourning the death of renowned voice actress Gabriela Castrejon Michel, the mother of Win It All
actress Aislinn Derbez. Gabriela, best known as the Spanish voice for Kim Cattrall’s ‘Samantha Jones’ on Sex and the City, was 65 at the time of her passing. The news of her death first circulated in the early hours of Monday, November 24, 2025, after multiple Mexican entertainment outlets and industry insiders reported the news.
Speculations about Gabriela’s passing were confirmed after the Mexican Association of Interpreters (ANDI) released a public statement on the matter. And now, her daughter, Aislinn Derbez, has shared her first statement after the tragedy. Contrary to some unverified reports, Gabriela didn’t die from a ‘domestic accident’, as previously reported.

After nearly 24 hours of speculation, Aislinn Derbez has released her first statement regarding her mother, Gabriela Michel’s demise. On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the Between Walls actress shared an emotional message on her Instagram Stories, revealing that her mother died from a heart attack. The message, originally written in Spanish, translates as:
“I sincerely appreciate all the expressions of love and support I have received. It is with profound sadness that I share the news that my mother passed away from a heart attack. At this time, I need to grieve in peace, surrounded by my family, and process this loss with love. Thank you for your respect and for your compassionate support during this difficult time.”

Derbez’s statement officially confirms the cause of Michel’s death, following a wave of unconfirmed reports suggesting she had suffered a domestic accident. While Aislinn didn’t provide additional medical details, she has requested privacy as she navigates this difficult time with her family.

Gabriela Michel was not an unfamiliar name in Mexico’s entertainment industry. She had shown interest in storytelling and performance from an early age, and finally found her calling in voice acting and dubbing. Her career’s breakout role remains the Spanish-language voice of 'Samantha Jones' (Kim Cattrall) in Sex and the City, which cemented her status as one of the most recognised voices in Spanish television.

Her most notable dubbing credits include family favourites such as The Parent Trap, Bedtime Stories, The Santa Clause 2 & 3, The Haunted Mansion, and Ice Princess. In television, Gabriela has lent her voice to shows like Hannah Montana, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Devious Maids, Princesita Sofia, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Jakers! Las aventuras de Piggley Winks.

Born in 1960 in Mexico, Gabriela Michel grew up with a deep love for the arts. Before finding her calling in voice acting, she formally trained in both acting and dance. She shared seven years of her life with the legendary actor and comedian Eugenio Derbez, with whom she had her eldest daughter, Aislinn, in 1986.
After their marriage ended, Michel found her forever in her second husband, Jorge Alberto Aguilera, a Spanish voice actor, announcer, and narrator who has also been an active member in Mexico’s dubbing industry. With Aguilera, she had two more daughters, Michelle and Chiara.

Not much is known about Gabriela’s private life, as she has mostly kept it to herself, rarely giving interviews or making public appearances. Her eldest, Aislinn, often described her mother as her emotional anchor. Now that tributes and condolences are pouring in from fans and colleagues, the grieving family is maintaining their privacy.
Gabriela Michel’s death marks the end of a legendary chapter in Spanish-language entertainment, but her legacy will live on through the numerous iconic characters she lent her voice to.
