The much-awaited film of the year, Adipurush has become the worst movie of 2023, and no one in their wildest nightmares would have predicted the way the film was made. From poor VFX to embarrassing dialogues and showing 'Ravana' wearing a T-shirt, the flaws were just too much for the viewers. The director of the film, Om Raut is getting all the hate from the audiences, and people are trolling him for disrespecting Ramayana.
Joining the long list of people, who are furious with the way Om Raut and his team have presented the story of Ramayana on the big screen is iconic actor, Gajendra Chauhan. The former chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Gajendra is best known for portraying the role of ‘Yudhishthir’ in BR Chopra’s legendary show, Mahabharat. The veteran actor has portrayed the role with such brilliance that even after so many years, he is still respected across the country and is often referred to as ‘Dharmraj’.

In an interview with India Today, Gajendra Chauhan opened up about his take on Om Raut’s Adipurush and revealed why he is furious with the film. The actor revealed that he had purchased the ticket, but before he was about to go to the theatres, he had already watched some clips of the film and realised that it wasn’t a movie about Ramayana. Sharing how disappointed he was, Gajendra admitted that he didn’t go to the theatre to watch Adipurush as he didn’t want to compromise on his beliefs. He explained:
"I had booked a ticket to watch this film, but for some reason, my conscience refused to accept that I should go and watch it in the theatre. In fact, after seeing everything in the trailers and short clips, I realised that this film is not worth it. I don’t want to compromise my beliefs. I want to see Lord Ram as Lord Shri Ram."
Further in the interview, Gajendra Chauhan also opened up about his disappointment to see the dialogues that were used in the film. The veteran actor slammed the dialogue writer of Adipurush, Manoj Muntashir and added that the work was a result of low thinking. Not only this, Gajendra also compared Manoj’s work with legendary writer, Rahi Masoom Raza Saab, who penned the dialogues of BR Chopra’s Mahabharat. Gajendra admitted that Manoj hadn’t achieved an inch of what Rahi Masoom had achieved in his life. Calling Manoj an egotistical man, Gajendra said:
"Yeh girl hui soch ka natija hai. You write the way you think. Manoj Muntashir, who is a lyricist was given the job to write dialogues for the film. He has copied things from different sources and made a mess. He is too an egotistical man. He hasn't achieved an inch of what Rahi Masoom Raza Saab had written in Mahabharat."

Gajendra Chauhan wasn’t the only veteran actor, who showcased his anger in public over the mess that Om Raut and his team have created in the name of Adipurush. Another actor from BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, who portrayed the iconic character of 'Dhritarashtra', Girija Shankar also bashed the makers of Adipurush for using tapori language in the film. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Girija Shankar stated that the use of tapori language in the film was completely unnecessary and has hurt the sentiments of many people for whom Ramayana is a way of life. Girija also added that if the film would’ve had better dialogues, it could’ve been a film to be cherished for generations to come. Sharing his disappointment on how Om Raut has presented the characters of Ramayana, Girija said:
"There was there's no need to use this Tapori colloquial language which is the language of the masses. After all, we are portraying our much cherished Ramayan - Ram Charitramanas and this has been played for years and years and ages. I think instead of talking in this language, they could have done much better. They could have found better way of talking, better dialogues, so that would have set a trend for the coming generations that how good the content is and how good and how well portrayed it is in a very decent language and vocabulary."
