His death was confirmed by his nephew on X, who mentioned that Mani passed away on November 20, 2025. Further, he mentioned how Mani would have now reunited with his late wife, Imelda. His brother, Greg Mounfield, confirmed the same news. While Mani's death has shocked the music world, fans are now recalling his baseline and personal struggles he quietly dealt with throughout all these years.

Who was Imelda Mounfield? The love of Mani Mounfield's life 

Mani Mounfield was married to Imelda Mounfield, whom he met for the first time at the recording of The Stone Roses' second album, Second Coming. The couple fell in love, tied the knot, and lived a quiet life away from media fanfare. They welcomed twin sons, Gene Clarke and George Christopher, in 2012. The media admired their strong chemistry, humour, and unshakable bond. It even grew stronger when the couple faced the biggest challenge of their live with Imelda's stage-four bowel cancer diagnosis.

After a tough battle where Mani Mounfield supported his wife unconditionally, she passed away in November 2023. During a conversation with the the BBC, Mani explained that it was a long and emotional three-year fight for them. During that time, the couple became vocal advocates for cancer awareness and fundraising while she was undergoing treatment. They had raised nearly 100,000 pounds by December 2022 for The Christie and Stockport NHS Charity through an auction of music memorabilia.

Just a few days before his demise, he remembered the second death anniversary of Imelda and shared 5 pictures with her in his final social media post. Despite her diagnosis, Imelda maintained her strength and humour. She once told the BBC how she tried to stay positive throughout the difficult journey because she did not want to sit and think about her illness all the time. Imelda discussed how things were difficult every other day, and she would continue to fight. In her words:

"I just don't want to be sitting thinking about cancer and illness all the time… Sometimes I have bad days, sometimes people haven't got a clue that I'm ill."

What is the cause of Mani Mounfield's death?

Until now, the cause of Mani's death has not been revealed to the public. His family has requested privacy and shared only brief tributes on social media to confirm his demise. Mani's nephew mentioned that their family was thinking especially about his teenage twin sons during the difficult time. The silence around the exact circumstances of his death has shifted the focus of fans on his personal journey, musical legacy, and the emotional struggles he faced during the final years of his life. Meanwhile, the bassist had recently announced a major UK speaking tour scheduled from September 2026 to June 2027, where he was set to share some behind-the-scenes from his decades-long career.

More about Mani Mounfield 

Mani Mounfield was born on November 16, 1962, in Crumpsall, Manchester. He grew up in a working-classworking-class family and attended Xaverian College before leaving at 16. Then Mani joined The Stone Roses' classic lineup in 1987 and delivered iconic bass sounds for hits such as I Wanna Be Adored and I Am the Resurrection. After the band split in 1996, he became a full-time member of Primal Scream and worked on albums such as Vanishing Point and the hit, Kowalski. Mani even played in the Manchester supergroup Freebass and made a cameo in the iconic film, 24 Hour Party People. According to Female First, he discovered in 2013 that he had a half-brother, Steve Jones, which brought them closer together.
