Get Ready For 'Wonder Man,' Unpacking The Plot And Release Details About The Upcoming Disney+ Show

After a wait of more than a year, Wonder Man is finally arriving on Disney+ on January 27, 2026 (ET). It is included among the shows of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The miniseries arrives after two more shows, Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel Zombies. With the first two shows receiving positive feedback, MCU fans are eager to see if the story of 'Simon Williams' will impress them as expected.

Wonder Man originally entered development three years ago in 2022. The show’s creation happened as part of an agreement between Destin Daniel Cretton, Marvel Studios, and Onyx Collective. The show’s arrival was delayed due to the Writers Guild of America strike in 2023. The premiere was also postponed twice, with the initial date being finalized in October 2024 and later shifted to December 2025. However, the release was once again moved to 2026. Wonder Man release date was confirmed by Disney+

While 2025 was ending, streaming platforms prepared the list of projects that they will be releasing in the upcoming year. As soon as Netflix revealed its plans, Disney+ did the same by announcing the shows that will premiere in 2026. Wonder Man was also included among those titles, along with several Korean shows, Hulu Originals, and more.

Wonder Man will not follow the general format of releasing one episode or a few more and bringing the rest every week. All eight episodes are scheduled to release on the same day. While announcing the list of shows, Disney+ revealed that the series will start streaming from 6 p.m. (ET) on January 27, 2026. Apart from Destin Daniel Cretton, the episodes are directed by James Ponsoldt, Tiffany Johnson, and Stella Maghie.

Wonder Man will have popular faces among the cast members

Just like the title, the show will focus on 'Wonder Man'/'Simon Williams,' who will be portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. 'Simon’s' mother, 'Martha Williams,' is being played by Shola Adewusi, and Bechir Sylvain will appear as 'Simon’s' father, 'Sanford Williams.' Demetrius Grosse has been cast as 'Simon’s' brother, 'Eric.' Arian Moayed also portrays one of the important characters, 'P. Cleary,' and Ben Kingsley would reprise his role as 'Trevor Slattery.' The rest of the characters will be played by X Mayo, Zlatko Buric, Olivia Thirlby, Byron Bowers, Ed Harris, Juliette Ortega, Dane Larsen, and more.

Wonder Man will focus on the lead character trying to establish himself in Hollywood

Multiple reports related to the upcoming shows say that the show will bring the story of 'Simon Williams,' who is active in Hollywood. However, the actor’s career is going through a bad phase, and he is aiming for a comeback. While 'Simon' tries to find a way out, he discovers from 'Trevor Slattery' that a director named 'Von Kovak' is working on a remake of the famous superhero film, Wonder Man. 'Simon' and 'Trevor' eventually enter a race to get a role for themselves in the film.

Back in 2024, Stephen Broussard, one of the producers, said that the comic book would serve as an inspiration for the show. Stephen mentioned that the series will be unique and there will be a different take on the material compared to what has happened in the MCU until now. For the unversed, 'Simon' had a completely different history in the comics, where he originally appeared as a villain in the beginning.
