The highly anticipated GlobeTrotter event is finally here. It has kick-started the celebrations for the upcoming Mahesh Babu, SS Rajamouli, and Priyanka Chopra film that was earlier called SSMB29. In the grand event, the film team set every fan's heart racing by showing an epic first look of the film whose real title has been revealed as Varanasi. Here's an inside glimpse of the event.

GlobeTrotter event: Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli film title confirmed to be Varanasi

Earlier, the film starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra, made by SS Rajamouli, was tentatively called SSMB29. However, in the grand event held in Hyderabad on November 15, 2025, it was revealed that the epic movie is named Varanasi. To note, reports had earlier alleged that the film was going to be named after this holy city, but this is the first time that it has been confirmed officially. There were also hints earlier since as per a report by Filmfare, Rajamouli had reportedly spent Rs. 40 crore creating a replica set of Varanasi in Hyderabad. It is safe to assume that the city is going to play a significant role in the film's plot.

Mahesh Babu's first glimpse in Varanasi shows a Lord Shiva connection

Fans who have gathered in thousands at the GlobeTrotter event have been sharing snippets of the grand affair. One attendee shared a video that offered the first glimpse of Mahesh Babu as the protagonist in the film. The actor with an intense and bloodied look charged forward while sitting on a massive white bull with a trident in his hand. This glimpse has reminded people of Lord Shiva, who has often been depicted with his vaahan, a divine bull named Nandi and his trishul always by his side. Moreover, the fact that the film is titled Varanasi, the city with a profound connection to Lord Shiva, has led to speculation that the story might be connected to Hindu epics.

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra grace the event as well

Priyanka Chopra's role in the film as 'Mandakini' was revealed a few days ago, which created a lot of buzz around what exactly her character arc will be. The actress, who had set her sails for Hollywood, will be returning to Indian screens after a long time. Additionally, Prithviraj is also slated to play the role of an intense antagonist against the main lead, Mahesh Babu. All three co-stars greeted each other with a lot of warmth on the stage of the GlobeTrotter event as the crowd erupted into cheers. Producer of the movie, SL Narayan, lauded the star cast and expressed his appreciation for filmmaker, SS Rajamouli. The pass issued to the attendees reads a note that says:

“Two years ago, we set out to chase the kind of stories that don’t have maps. Today, that journey stands at the edge of history, unveiling the title and glimpse to welcome you into our world. Let’s celebrate this moment together, safely and with pride.”
