One of the most loved actors of his generation, Govinda has indeed made his fans drool over his onscreen presence and acting mettle. In addition, it was his pair with ace filmmaker, David Dhawan that was immensely loved by their millions of fans. The actor-director duo has also collaborated in 17 films, including Hero No.1, Coolie No.1, Raja Babu, Partner, Deewana Mastana and many others. However, after working together for some years, rumours of their feud surfaced in the media. They last worked together last in the 2009 comedy film, Do Knot Disturb. But recently, they were spotted interacting at filmmaker, Ramesh Taurani's 2023 Diwali party and this grabbed many eyeballs. Now, Govinda addressed their patch-up speculations.
In an interview with the Bombay Times, Govinda was asked about the reconciliation rumours between him and the ace filmmaker, David Dhawan. To this, the actor revealed that he is happy to know that people still want the Govinda-David magic back onscreen. He mentioned that they have already patched up after the fall-out, which lasted many years and talked about their meetings at various events. In Govinda's words:
"I am glad people still feel that we should work together. Yeh unka pyaar hai [This is their love]. Our patch-up had already happened. This was our second meeting. It was a Diwali bash where we ate good food and had a great time. We don't believe in raking up the past. Why mull over it? That's not necessary. Let bygones be bygones. Filmy talk wasn't a priority, but when that happened, we only spoke about the happy memories and those were plenty.”

Further, in the same interview, Govinda spoke about the 'camp culture' in Bollywood and mentioned how one can get an invitation to a party only if they belong to some group. However, he also mentioned how once he, Shakti Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and David Dhawan were called a group, but in reality, there was nothing of that sort. He shared:
"Ramesh Taurani is a good person. Over the years, Bollywood parties have become these group parties, and if you don't belong to a certain group (camp), you aren't invited. If you are not seen at these parties, it is assumed that you aren't social, which is wrong. I am not anti-social at all, and I don't believe in groups. Back then, people used to say Govinda, Shakti Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and David Dhawan are a group. I didn't agree with that chat either. We are all artists who worked together."
Despite being one of the most successful pairs with David Dhawan, Govinda once felt upset with the former. As per reports, Govinda was upset when David started working with other actors, such as Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. And this is why their collaborations came to an abrupt halt.

In a 2017 interview with the IANS, David was asked if he would again work with Govinda for the 18th time. To this, the filmmaker answered affirmingly and mentioned that Govinda is special to him. David's interview might have softened Govinda's heart, making the path towards their reconciliation. David had said:
“Why not, sure... Yes, Govinda and I have created history in cinema. Govinda has been different, that's it.”
