Wedding season is just around the corner in India, and everyone's feed is flooded with moodboards, entertainment ideas, wedding posts, and songs to groove to this shaadi season. Amid that, a list of demands has left the internet talking. And no, it doesn't cite expensive resorts, jewels, or money, but 10 unusual demands that have netizens divided.
While dowry is a crime, the behind-the-scenes transactions in the name of 'gifts' are not news to anyone. While families often spend their entire life savings on these 'gifts', hoping that they will allow their daughters to have a better life. Nonetheless, most of the time it never ends well. Now, the generation is so socially aware of its rights, and women are no longer dependent on anyone but themselves to live a 'fulfilled' life; the only measures a couple stands on are loyalty, love, and emotional maturity. Amid that, a groom's demands have made waves, as he is not asking for 'dowry' but has 10 wishes from his bride.

The groom made a list of 10 demands, including that there would be no pre-wedding shoot and that his bride would have to wear a saree instead of a lehenga. His third demand was about the music he wanted at his wedding: he demanded that, instead of loud, vulgar music, instrumental music be played. He next demanded that no one be present except the couple during the varmala ceremony, and no one should lift them during the garland exchange, and that photographers and videographers not interfere during the rituals. He further insisted that no one interrupts the priest once the ceremony has begun. He made these demands, stating:
"This is a sacred wedding before the holy fire, not a film shoot."

In the same list, he further added that he and his bride would not pose for the photographers. The groom also demanded that the wedding take place during the day and that the vidaai be completed by evening, so that late-night events do not 'inconvenience the guests'. The final demand on his list cited that anyone who asked the newlywed couple to hug or kiss should be immediately removed from the venue. The demands, while they seemed fair to some, were soon dismissed by others.

While some believed the list of demands was reasonable, others called him out for trying to dictate the wedding single-handedly. A user penned, "Not taking dowry isn’t some act of greatness or valour, guys… It’s literally illegal, so why are we acting like this dude is Maryada Purushottam personified? He basically sounds like a guy who has no friends and doesn’t want anyone to have fun at a wedding." A comment read:

"Why is the groom deciding what the bride will wear? More importantly, why is it winning hearts? Not taking dowry is how normal men should be behaving."
A user penned, "If he is triggered by such minor inconveniences, I don’t think he should be getting married and spoiling others' lives." However, others supported him and said, "This is excellent !!! Marriage is a sacred bond, not for Instagram likes !!!" A comment read, "Shadi is a Vedic ritual... It should be done in the morning...That's how it should be." A commenter said:
"I'm saving this for my future wedding."
