Guddi Maruti's Chilling Revelations On Divya Bharti's Death: 'Good That Neeta Lulla Was There...'

The untimely demise of Divya Bharti remains one of the most mysterious cases of Bollywood. The Shatranj actress lost her life in a bizarre accident in 1993, at the mere age of 19. While reports stated that she had a tragic fall from the balcony of her fifth-floor Mumbai apartment, her untimely death remains an unsolved mystery even after three decades. Now, another layer of speculations surfaced as late Divya’s friend and actress, Guddi Maruti shared some bone-chilling details about that tragic day.

Guddi Maruti revealed that designer, Neeta Lulla had witnessed Divya’s fall

Veteran actress, Guddi Maruti recently sat down with Siddharth Kannan when the conversation eventually came down to her late friend, Divya Bharti. She recounted the tragic events leading up to the day of Divya's untimely death, which sent shockwaves through the film industry.

Guddi recalled that designer, Neeta Lulla was there in Divya’s apartment when the actress accidentally fell from her fifth-floor window. Neeta was sitting on Divya’s sofa and chatting with her when the latter went to the window to see if Sajid’s car had arrived. In Guddi Maruti’s words:

“Kitne stories, that isne dhakka de diya, usne dhakka de diya, but good that Neeta Lulla was there to see… wo baat kar rahi hai or usne aise palti… suppose khidki peeche hai, or ye (Neeta) sofa pe baithi hai. And usne (Divya) peeche se bola, ‘main dekh rahi hu shayad Sajid ki gadi aayi hai’, ye aise palti hai, and she’s actually seeing her go down… wo neeche jhuki and she’s gone down.”

Guddi recalled that Divya was overworked and messed up

Recalling Divya’s relationship with director-producer, Sajid Nadiadwala and the last time she saw the actress, Maruti said:

“She used to live life like today is the last day, bindas. She was a nice girl. At that time, she was seeing Sajid Nadiadwala. This was the time we were shooting for ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’. She died on the night of April 5, and April 4 is my birthday. So, we all partying together—Govinda, Divya, Sajid, and others. She was okay at the party, but I felt she was a little sad. She had to go for an outdoor shoot, but she didn’t want to.”

Divya

Guddi detailed how Divya's passing had a profound impact on her mother and husband, Sajid Nadiadwala. She dismissed the rumours surrounding Sajid’s involvement in Divya’s death. Sajid was in bad shape post this incident as he was not even home when the incident transpired. It was more tragic as Divya fell down trying to look for Sajid’s car before losing her balance. The actress had an immensely promising career and married Sajid Nadiadwala in May 1992, only 10 months before her tragic end in 1993.
