Gujarat’s couple expecting their first child, lost their life in the tragic plane crash

Gujarat’s couple, Vaibhav Patel and Jinal Goswami, were preparing hard to embrace parenthood for the first time. Vaibhav and Jinal were originally from Gujarat and most recently resided in Croydon, London. Vaibhav and Jinal came to Ahmedabad to celebrate her Seemant Sanskar, a traditional Gujarati baby shower ceremony, typically performed in the seventh month of pregnancy. On their way back home after the baby shower, the young couple lost their life in the tragic plane crash. Soon, the celebration filled with laughter and hope turned into a moment of mourning. It was Vaibhav’s close friend, Nirav Patel, who shared with the BBC why the couple had made their way to Ahmedabad. In his words:

"They were so excited for this trip. We had talked about their plans just a few days ago. The couple were in Ahmedabad to celebrate their own baby shower. It was on the 5 June. She was seven months pregnant. They were very happy. Vaibhav did not have a father, so he was the big son supporting the family back in India."

He also shared about his and Vaibhav’s bonding and what the latter said two days back before boarding the doomed flight. In his words:

"He had rung me two days before the flight to tell me he was coming home. We were very good friends and had so much fun together... many trips around India, like to Goa or Rajasthan. This is a massive loss. When he worked in Southampton I saw him a lot. We worked together at Papa Johns in Portswood."
