Popular filmmaker, Hansal Mehta is known for his critically-acclaimed projects, including Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story's sequel, Scam 2003: The Telgi Story, Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!!, Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai? and Woodstock Villa, among others. Coming to his personal life, Hansal married his first wife, Sunita in his 20s, and together, they have two sons, Jay (who is a director) and Pallava (a specially-abled child). After divorcing Sunita, Hansal dated actor, Yusuf Hussain's daughter, Safeena, and together they welcomed two daughters, Kimaya and Rehana. In 2022, after 17 years of togetherness, Hansal married Safeena in a small ceremony in California.
Now that a video featuring Nagarjuna's bodyguard pushing a differently-abled person at the airport during the actor's presence is going viral on social media, Hansal Mehta and Jay Mehta reacted to it strongly. Although Nagarjuna issued an apology online after his bodyguard pushed aside the differently-abled person, who was asking for a selfie from the former, many netizens are still dissatisfied with the incident. Jay too, took to his X and penned a long note. He asked the celebrities to be at least a 'little less self-obsessed and a little more giving' to their fans.

Afterwards, Jay talked about his younger brother, Pallava and mentioned that the latter has Down’s Syndrome. However, mentioning that Pallava is a big Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan fan, Jay mentioned that if he gets the same treatment from his favourite stars any day, then it would break his heart completely. Mentioning how Nagarjuna's video directly hit his nerve, Jay mentioned that this is the reason why he and his father, Hansal never take Pallava to their film screenings as any such event might break the latter's innocent heart completely due to a lack of understanding by anybody.
At the end, Jay also mentioned that he can picture his brother, Pallava doing the exact same thing like the man did at the airport. Thus, the doting elder brother mentioned that they avoid taking Pallava at movie screenings too, so that people stop pushing him aside due to his supposedly ‘weird’ actions. He concluded:

“And the only reason he has never come for any of our screenings is that, if somebody were to make a snarky comment on him, or were to push him because he was supposedly ‘being weird,’ something he wouldn’t do, but in his case, you can never truly know… but those peeps would have a lot more to worry about than an ‘image-damaging’ post on X or Instagram. Somebody would’ve got hurt real bad! I’m sorry to be so extra and vocal. But it just triggered me because I can picture my brother doing the exact same thing to almost any person he might’ve seen on tv, including Nagarjuna Sir. I guess I’ll just need to teach the handicapped kid to keep his head down and his mouth shut instead of teaching an educated person with a sound state of mind to be a little more aware and gentle.”

Soon after this, Hansal Mehta reposted his son, Jay Mehta's post. Alongside it, Hansal talked about another tragic incident that happened a few years ago. The doting father mentioned that to fulfill his son, Pallava's wish to meet a celebrity, he had requested the latter's brother, his close friends and other people associated with him. Hansal did so as the one short meetup between Pallava and his favourite star would mean the world to the child. However, he got no response from the celebrity's side. Hence, explaining that now such meetups will mean nothing to Pallava, Hansal penned:
“True story. So my son Pallava is a fan of this massive star. I’d requested through his brother, his close friends at various times that meeting the star would mean the world to him. And it would be my gift to my boy. When his eyes were operated the first person he recognised in the newspaper was that star. But no. There was no response from the star or his friends. I gave up. Now over the years Pallu’s cognitive abilities have declined. And this will have no meaning even if it has to happen.”
