Hema Malini Felt Sorry For Dharmendra's Silent Funeral, 'Decision Remains In The Hands Of Family'

The legend of Bollywood, Dharmendra, bid the world adieu on November 24, 2025, leaving his family, friends, and fans heartbroken. The actor had a silent funeral at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai, attended by his family, friends, and film industry acquaintances. However, unlike other popular stars, Dharmendra didn’t receive any state honors, and the secrecy around his death left his fans hurt.

Hema Malini felt sorry for Dharmendra’s fans for not getting a chance to see him

Dharmendra’s fan and acquaintance, Hamad Al Reyami, a resident of the UAE, was very close to the late actor. Taking to his IG handle, Hamad shared a picture with Hema as he visited her to pay his condolences to the family. In his post, Hamid shared Hema’s condition after losing the love of her life, Dharmendra. Hamad shared that she looked heartbroken and absorbed in pain.

While conversing with Hamad, Hema added how she felt sorry for Dharmendra’s fans, who couldn’t see him for the last time. Revealing how his family made the decision, Hema said:

“Dharminder throughout his life never wanted to be seen weak or sick. He was hiding his pain even from the closest people. After the person leaves, the decision remains in the hands of the family.”

Hema Malini revealed that Dharmendra’s final days were traumatising

Penning his conversation with Hema, Hamad revealed that she asked Dharmendra to publish his beautiful poems, to which he said, there are a few more to be written. The actress then retorted that his words would never see the light, and now strangers will get hold of his poetry.

Hema, in her conversation, also spoke about Dharmendra’s last days and how it left his loved ones devastated. Talking to Hamad, she expressed her wish to be at the farm where he had been with Dharmendra two months earlier, so she could see him there. Talking about Dharmendra’s last days, Hema shared:

“But what happened was mercy... Because Hamad you couldn’t bear to see him like that. His final days were cruel... Hurtful... And even we can barely bear to see it like that.”

Why were Dharmendra's last rites rushed?

Despite being one of the most loved and renowned celebrities, Dharmendra didn’t get any state honours. The news of Dharmendra's passing made headlines around 1 P.M. on November 24, 2025. By the time the family was already preparing for the last rites, not giving his fans a chance to pay their respects to the immensely loved actor. As soon as the news broke, Dharmendra's daughter, Esha Deol, and his second wife, Hema Malini, were spotted at the Pawan Hans crematorium located in Vile Parle. The death was confirmed around 1:30 PM, and by 3 PM, the last rites were finished. Many reports suggested that Dharmendra's family decided against the state honour, opting for a more private farewell for the actor.
