Veteran actress, Hema Malini was a fresh face in Bollywood when she starred in the 1970 film, Johny Mera Naam, alongside Dev Anand. The film went on to become one of the first big hits of Hema Malini, while Dev Anand was already a superstar at that time. Helmed by Vijay Anand, the movie was a big hit, and the film’s songs, like Pal Bhar Ke Liye and O Mere Raja, were loved by many. Now, in a recent interview, Hema recalled an incident from the shoot of the film.
Hema Malini recently graced an event, Jaipur Dev Festival, celebrating Dev Anand’s 100th birth anniversary, and speaking at the same, she recalled the shoot of the song, O Mere Raja. She shared that during the shoot for a portion of the song in Bihar, she was asked to sit on Dev Anand's lap in the rope chair. Calling it an embarrassing moment, she said:

“There was a scene where we were supposed to go in the rope chair. The sequence was such that he is sitting already and I have to sit in another chair but because I miss it, he makes me sit on his lap. That was very embarrassing for me, in real life also, and in the film also I am feeling very uncomfortable.”

Hema further shared that in the middle of the shot, there was a power cut. Because of that, she was stuck with the actor, sitting on his lap in the rope chair. Recalling the moment with a laugh, Hema revealed that she felt very uncomfortable as she didn’t want to put her whole weight on Dev Anand's lap. In her words:
“So the shot started and the rope chair was moving but right in the middle, it stopped. The electricity was gone. I said ‘Dev saab, I can’t sit like this’. I didn’t want to put my whole weight on his lap. It was very very uncomfortable.”
Hema Malini's revelation took everyone down memory lane, and one could imagine the awkward moment she faced while shooting for the song. However, journalist, Bhawana Somaaya, who was interviewing Hema at the event, reacted to the same and added:
“You were scared and he told you ‘don’t look down, look into my eyes’.”

Hema Malini, who was last seen in the 2020 film, Shimla Mirchi, has been missing from the big screen for some time now. Earlier, in an interview with News18, Esha Deol opened up about her mother, Hema Malini making a comeback on the big screen and revealed that she has been pushing her to do so. Mentioning that Hema is looking at some good roles and scripts, the loving daughter asked people to contact her mother if they have something good for her. Esha said:
“I’ve been pushing my mother to make a comeback. I’ve been doing it forever! In fact, she too wants to do films again. She’s looking at some good roles and scripts. She’s the kind of person who says that only if something very good comes her way will she step out and go back in front of the camera. If anyone has something good for my mom, they should shoot her a call.”
