The growing romance between legendary action star Liam Neeson and Baywatch fame Pamela Anderson has become one of Hollywood’s most talked-about stories recently. The duo, who recently wrapped up their filming of The Naked Gun reboot, have ignited dating rumours as fans noticed their unmissable chemistry off-screen. Over the past few months, the actors have been seen together at numerous red carpet events and in joint interviews, with their playful chemistry strongly hinting at a budding romance. Recently, the buzz was reignited when Pamela planted a cheeky kiss on Neeson’s cheek during a joint appearance on The Today Show.
While the industry buzzes about this fresh romance between the actors, many fans have been reminded of the deep love Neeson once shared with his late wife, actress Natasha Richardson. Their beautiful bond was cut short 16 years ago by a tragic skiing accident that claimed her life, leaving Neeson a heartbroken widower and single father to their two sons. Yet, even after all these years, Natasha’s memory continues to live on.
For over a decade since her demise, Liam Neeson maintained a low profile, especially when it comes to matters of the heart and giving love another chance. Now, with Pamela by her side, indicating a new beginning, fans are revisiting the devastating events of 2009 that changed Liam Neeson and his sons’ lives forever. Here’s everything you need to know about Natasha Richardson’s tragic death.
Natasha Richardson was a well-celebrated British actress known for her graceful stage presence, elegance, and emotional depth. Born into the legendary Redgrave acting dynasty, the Tony Award winner is revered to this day for her stellar roles in The Handmaid’s Tale (1990), Maid in Manhattan (2002), and Asylum (2005).
Besides acting, Richardson was actively involved in humanitarian work, especially as an advocate for AIDS-related causes after her father’s death from the disease. The late actress’s paths crossed with Liam Neeson on the sets of Anna Christie (1993), where they met and fell in love. She later co-starred with Neeson in the 1994 film, Nell.

Natasha Richardson was just 45 when she passed away in a tragic accident while skiing at Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Canada, with her husband and their then-teenage sons, Micheál and Daniel. What initially seemed like a minor fall eventually turned fatal for the Nell actress.
On March 16, 2009, Richardson was skiing with her husband and her sons on a family trip when she had a horrific crash on a beginner’s ski slope and hit her head. While the fall was sharp, Natasha initially appeared fine except for the pain and declined medical assistance. However, this turned out to be her undoing. A few hours later, the actress complained of a severe headache and rapidly lost consciousness.
By the time Natasha was taken to the hospital, it was too late. Doctors revealed later that the late actress had suffered an epidural haematoma, a buildup of blood between the brain and skull due to blunt trauma. Even more heartbreaking was the fact that Richardson’s injury was survivable if treated immediately, but her condition went unnoticed for too long.
Natasha was accompanied by her sons, Micheál and Daniel, when the accident happened. Liam, who was filming in Toronto at the time, rushed to be by her side, but by the time he arrived, the actress was declared brain dead and was on life support. In a 2014 interview, Neeson remembered telling his late wife:
“Sweetie, you're not coming back from this. You've banged your head. It's — I don't know if you can hear me, but that's — this is what's gone down. And we're bringing ya back to New York. All your family and friends will come.”
Knowing there was nothing more left to be done, Richardson was flown to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, where she passed away on March 18, 2009. In 2018, their eldest son, Micheál, changed his surname to Richardson in her memory.
Neeson was left heartbroken after losing Richardson in what was supposed to be a fun family trip. In the years that followed the actress’s death, Neeson had mostly steered clear of the limelight, especially when it came to dating. He was briefly known to be involved with PR executive Freya St. Johnston. In an interview with People, when asked about his views on dating after losing his wife, the Schindler’s List actor said, “No, in a word. I’m past all that.”
In an interview with Inquirer.net in 2020, Neeson shared how he still keeps his late wife’s memory alive. The actor shared that he still visits Richardson’s grave and speaks to her. In his words:
“I speak to her every day at her grave, which is about a mile and a half down the road. I go down there quite often, so I do speak to her as if she’s here. Not that she answers me.”
16 years after Natasha’s death, fans are finally seeing a different side of Neeson with his Naked Gun co-star, Pamela Anderson. Amid ongoing speculations of a budding romance, on July 29, 2025, a People insider confirmed that the two are indeed together, and it’s definitely a romantic bond. Both stars have endured a fair share of heartbreak, and now, it seems they are enjoying each other’s company.
With the beginning of a new chapter with Pamela Anderson, fans hope that the 72-year-old finally finds peace, love, and joy as he honours the legacy of the woman he once called ‘my everything.’
