Billionaire businessman, Sunjay Kapur’s untimely death came as a shock to the business and entertainment world. But a month after his demise, a feud for his inheritance began. Sunjay was married to Bollywood actress, Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and welcomed two kids, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur. However, after the couple got divorced, Sunjay went on to marry socialite, Priya Sachdev.
Priya, who was earlier married to hotelier, Vikram Chatwal and had a daughter, Safira, went on to have a son, Azarius, with Sunjay. There had been tiffs in the Kapur family post the demise of Sunjay, as it wasn’t certain who would inherit the late businessman’s Rs. 30,000 Crore wealth. Soon, Priya was appointed as the non-executive director of Sunjay’s company, Sona Comstar.
Now, according to the latest developments, Sunjay’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, from his previous marriage to Karisma Kapoor, have approached the Delhi High Court seeking a share in their father's assets. They also accused Sunjay Kapur's third wife, Priya Sachdev, of usurping the 'full control' over their father's assets. Amid the family feud between the ex-wife and current wife, let's find out how much alimony and child support Karisma received after her divorce from Sunjay.
When Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur filed for divorce in 2016, it came as a shock to many. However, what followed was a legal battle between the two. There was a lot of blame game, where Sunjay even accused Karisma of marrying him for his wealth. The two didn’t leave any chance to wash their dirty linen in public.
After a lot of drama, Karisma and Sunjay decided to resolve the matter amicably, and the couple was granted a divorce in 2016. After the divorce, Karisma received a hefty amount as alimony. According to a report in Mid-Day, Karisma acquired Sunjay’s father’s bungalow in Khar. Sunjay purchased bonds worth Rs. 14 crores for their kids, Samaira and Kiaan. Recently, Sunjay’s children, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Kapur, from his first marriage to Karisma Kapoor, challenged their father’s will. They urged to be recognised as Class 1 legal heirs to Kapur's personal assets in the late businessman's Rs. 30,000 crore estate. They claimed that their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, forged the will after his sudden death in June 2025 in the United Kingdom.
Samaira and Kiaan were represented by their mother, Karisma Kapoor, in the court. The will, which was recently presented, suggested that Sunjay’s entire personal estate has been left in the name of Priya Kapur. Karisma's children further added that they have not been provided with a copy or shown the 'will'.
The family fiasco began when Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, claimed that she was not given the proper reason for her son's demise. Rani also revealed that she was forced to sign documents behind the locked doors after her son passed away. Adding to the ongoing drama, Rani now claimed that she too had been left out of the will. She told the court:
“I have got nothing. I am a Class 1 legatee and now my son leaves me on the road.”
After Samaira and Kiaan filed a suit challenging their father, Sunjay Kapur’s will, Priya Sachdev hit back at the suit. Priya, through her legal team, said that the suit was not maintainable. She also mentioned that Kiaan and Samaira were given Rs. 1990 crore from Sunjay Kapur's trust, Rani Kapur Trust. Priya’s advocate, Rajiv Nayyar, stated:
“After getting Rs 1,900 crore worth of assets just five days before filing this suit, you suddenly claim you haven’t got anything.”
