Lokah OTT Release, Here's The Whopping Amount Jio Hotstar Paid To Get The Digital Rights Of The Film

One of the most-awaited films of the year, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, will finally stream on OTT on October 31, 2025. People have been eagerly waiting for the film to get an OTT release, but there has been no confirmation. But when streaming giant JioCinema announced the film’s OTT release on October 31, 2025, fans couldn’t contain their excitement.

Did you know Jio Hotstar paid a whopping amount to get the streaming rights of Lokah?

The film, released in theatres on August 28, 2025, was a colossal box-office success. The film was in the news for its OTT release with tentative dates leading the headlines. But now the film will stream on JioCinema on October 31, 2025, in Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi.

Ever since its release, the makers were discussing its digital release with various streaming giants, but it was Jio Hotstar that won the rights. According to multiple reports, Jio Hotstar paid a massive amount to secure the streaming rights to the film, reportedly topping the digital rights price for the big-budget Mohanlal and Prithviraj film, Empuraan.

Since the makers of Lokah are planning a multi-part series, it will be beneficial for the streaming giant to build long-term brand value. As pe reports, Jio Hotstar has paid a whopping amount of Rs 75 crore to get the digital rights of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra storyline

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is India’s first female superhero flick. The film revolves around the life of 'Chandra', a woman from Kerala, who leads a normal life but soon discovers changes in herself. Eventually, she found out that she was linked to the powerful female spirit of Kerala folklore, 'Kalliyankattu Neeli'. She realised that she is her modern form whose power didn't emerge from science or technology but rather from cultural history, ancient stories, past connection, pain, and resilience.

The antagonist of the film is 'Nachiyappa', who undergoes a transformation into 'Yaksha', a male supernatural being from Kerala folklore. The film is about ‘Chandra’ clashing with 'Nachiyappa' to save the world along with realising her own identity, finding a purpose of her life.

Directed by Dominic Arun, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is produced by actor, Dulquer Salmaan. While Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen K. Gafoor, the film also features an incredible cast, including Sandy Master, Arun Kurian, and Vijay Raghavan, with supporting roles featuring heavyweights like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Dulquer Salmaan, and Tovino Thomas.
