Howard Stern Gets Fired From SiriusXM? Here's Truth Behind 'The Howard Stern Show' Being Cancelled

Howard Allan Stern is a famous American broadcaster. He is known for his super hit show, The Howard Stern Show, which made him a renowned name nationally and internationally. It was syndicated on terrestrial radio from 1986 to 2006. And since 2006, he has been broadcasting his show on SiriusXM. However, people who listened to him were left shocked on September 8, 2025, when they tuned into his radio show and found Andy Cohen's voice on the microphone. 

Howard Stern finally returns to The Howard Stern Show

Andy Cohen took over Stern's show's timeslot, leaving fans visibly shocked and upset. On behalf of Howard, he addressed the fans that he knows how they were waiting for him to return, but he is not returning. He went on to wonder if he would be fired, and stated that he cannot say a lot about Howard's contract. He was quoted as saying:

"I know that you’re expecting a big announcement from Howard, and this is not how things were meant to go. There’s been a lot of talk about what’s going to happen with Howard’s deal. Is he fired? I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say, except that he’s not here and I am. Howard was supposed to start the show today, and this was supposed to be something of a cleaner handoff. There is nothing clean about it. Here we are. I’m kind of winging it."

However, after twenty minutes of heartbreak, goosebumps and silent cries, Howard Stern took the microphone. It was a big prank which Howard Stern played on his fans. He added that he missed last week's show because he was sick and not due to the contract negotiations. He even addressed the buzz about being fired from his own show. Howard said:

"I’m going to have to fill everyone in. I was just getting so fucking annoyed with everyone writing me, asking me if I was okay because I’d been fired."

Further in the show, Howard joked that he was minding his own business and enjoying his summer vacation. He added that a news report surfaced that he was being fired after Stephen Colbert's firing. Addressing the buzz, he stated that none of it is true. Howard was quoted as saying:

"I’m minding my own business, enjoying my summer vacation, [A reporter] says that I’ve been fired for being too woke. In light of the Stephen Colbert firing — because the word on Stephen was that it was all part of this merger, and they fired Stephen because he’s too woke — the story then became ‘Howard Stern is fired because he’s too woke.’ I still don’t even know what that means. Then all of a sudden, I’m sitting home and everybody I know in my world, even peripherally, is writing me. ‘Are you okay, are you okay?’ ” he continued. “None of it is true, zero truth."

Howard, who turned 71 this year, even expressed that the whole controversy impacted his retirement plan. He added that he cannot even think of retiring now. Without getting into details of his contract, he added that he is happy with SiriusXM and he is not being fired.

For the unversed, The Howard Stern Show has been on air for over two decades. The show gained a lot of love and a loyal fan base when it was syndicated on the national radio show from 1986 to 2005. However, it moved to the satellite radio company, SiriusXM, in the year 2006.
