Shahid Kapoor's movie, O'Romeo has been in talks for quite a while now. While the trailer was dropped in January 2026, the movie was released on February 13, 2026. With allegedly a budget of Rs. 125 crore and a stellar cast, the movie has been garnering good response from the audience. Well, earlier the movie fell into legal trouble, which was caused by the chatter around that Shahid's role would be in alignment with the Mumbai gangster, Hussain Ustara.

Who was Hussain Ustara, whose role was allegedly played by Shahid Kapoor in O'Romeo?

It was Hussain Ustara's daughter, who replied with a legal notice to the makers, thinking that her father's story was being chornicolised, without the family's consent. She even demanded Rs. 2 crore compensation in this case. Later, the Bombay City Civil Court dismissed the same, while it was shared that the movie was merely inspired by the real-life events and far from a factual recreation. People have been questioning about the Mumbai gangster and digging for information. So, in this article, we will see how Hussain Ustara passed away!

Mumbai's gangster, Hussain Ustara, was born as Hussain Shaikh and was known as 'Ustara' for his ability to harm deeply with a simple blade. In an interview with famous crime journalist and author Hussain Zaidi for his book Dongri to Dubai, Hussain shared that at 15, he was working as a pickpocket and back then, he needed to submit daily loot to the ring leader.

One day, Hussain had managed to get a huge loot and decided to keep it for himself. When the ringleader got to know about it, Hussain was beaten. Seeing no way, Hussain had to take out the blade in self-defence, and in doing so, he ended up harming the teamleader.

As per the doctors, that cut was so deep that they were left confused. This incident led Hussain to get the title of Ustara. Sharing more about the same, he said:

"When I realised that things were going out of control, and I had no means to escape. I removed my razor from inside my pocket and attacked the ringleader. I managed to inflict a wound that began at his neck and ran right to his crotch. He was bleeding a lot and I managed to get away. He was taken to a hospital and the doctor there made a strange remark. He said that the person who had cut him had done so with surgical precision. And soon, before I could realise it, the name Ustara got stuck to my name. From then on people started fearing me, all because of that small weapon."

How did Hussain Ustara die?

Talking about Hussain Ustara, he was on Dawood Ibrahim's hit list, but he refused to submit to him or any of his illegal activities. He met Sapna Didi, whose real name was Arshaf Khan, and together they were plotting to kill Dawood. However, things reportedly turned sour between the duo, eventually taking a romantic turn.

Spana wanted to kill Dawood to take revenge for her husband's demise, and even after she parted ways with Hussain, she continued to plot to kill Dawood. In 1994, she was brutally killed. If the reports are to be believed, four years later, in 1998, Hussain was murdered. He was reportedly shot dead by 8 henchmen from the D-Company, which took place in Nagpada locality, where Ashraf also breathed her last.
