The biographical war drama, Ikkis, was finally released on January 1, 2026. The film is marked as the last movie of veteran actor, Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24, 2025. Ikkis is based on the real life of a 21-year-old hero, Arun Khetarpal, who was martyred when he was in action during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
Agastya Nanda made his silver screen debut with this film. Apart from Dharmendra and Agastya, the film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat. Now that Ikkis has hit the theatres, let’s find out what happens at the end of the film.
Agastya Nanda played the role of 'Arun Khetarpal', and Dharmendra portrayed the role of his father, 'Brigadier M. L. Khetarpal'. The story of Ikkis kicks off with the timeline set in 2001, when 'Arun's' father, 'M. L. Khetarpal' revisits the city of Lahore to attend his college reunion. He went to 'Naseer's' (played by Jaideep Ahlawat) residence and stayed there for three days. Soon, he gelled with them. Being back in the city, 'M. L. Khetarpal' gets filled with memories.
Thus, 'M. L. Khetarpal' expressed his wish to visit his hometown, Sargodha, where he used to reside before India and Pakistan’s partition. He also requests 'Naseer' to take him to the battlefield where his son, 'Arun' got martyred during the Indo-Pak war. The film follows a non-linear pattern and features two different timelines. The storyline of Ikkis focuses on Arun Khetarpal’s life, including his family, his NDA days, his time at Poona Horse and his first love. The end of Ikkis features the heartbreaking moment when Arun fought the war and showed his valour.
Ikkis ends on an emotional note. On the way back to Lahore from Sargodha, 'Naseer' decides to fulfil 'M. L. Khetarpal's' wish to visit the place where his son, 'Arun', got martyred. 'Naseer' takes him near a tree and reveals that his son, 'Arun', got martyred there while fighting with the opposition. He highlighted how the 21-year-old Indian army officer fought the Pakistani soldiers and showed his immense courage till his last breath.

In the climax scene, 'Naseer's' secret identity gets revealed. After he revealed the minute details about 'Arun's' fight and martyrdom, 'M. L. Khetarpal' became curious to know how 'Naseer' knew such things. That’s when 'Naseer' introduces himself as 'Brigadier Khwaja Mohammed Naseer'. He is the one who fired at 'Arun's' tank during the war, which led to his death. 'Naseer' kept this truth within him for years and wanted to disclose it to 'Arun's' dad, 'M. L. Khetarpal'. After this confession, there was a moment of silence, making the film end on a heartfelt note.
Recently, a video surfaced online featuring Arun Khetarpal’s brother, Mukul Khetarpal. In the clip, he looked visibly emotional and was also seen wiping tears while watching the biographical war drama, Ikkis. After the special screening, Mukesh had a conversation with the director, Sriram Raghavan. He told the director that the film is just fantastic. Expressing his feelings, Mukesh told the director:
"My grouse is you made me cry. You made me relive... Certain things were in my mind, and moment by moment, when I saw it on screen, I got so emotional I couldn't stop crying. Now that I have seen the movie, I mean, the movie is 10 times or maybe 20 times or 100 times what we see in the trailer. Oh, fantastic!"
In the same video, Mukesh also had a special moment with Agastya Nanda. He lauded the youngster for his strong presence on-screen. Mukesh also shared that Agastya will forever remain Arun to him. In his words:
"Whatever else you are, you will be Arun for life. There is no taking that away from you. Well done!"
