Ila Arun is an actress, TV personality, and folk-pop singer who is best known for her work on songs like Ghup Chup, Morni Baaga Ma Bole, Ringa Ringa, and Choli Ke Peeche, among others. In 2024, a reprised version of her song, Choli Ke Peeche was released, and it was voiced by none other than the sensational singer, Diljit Dosanjh. However, a controversy bloomed when Ila asserted that the song was used in the film without her permission.
Ila Arun has not sung for Bollywood in over 12 years now, but her existing songs remain the Hindi film fraternity's all-time favourites. In 2024, Rajesh A Krishnan released a hit heist comedy, Crew, which also featured two of Ila's iconic songs, Ghagra and Choli Ke Peeche, that she co-sang with Alka Yagnik for Subhash Ghai's 1993 crime drama, Khal Nayak.
However, Ila later voiced her protest against the use of her songs in the film, revealing that these songs were reprised in the film without her permission. Recently, in a conversation with Hindustan Times, the singer revealed that she has made peace with it. Ila Arun sat for a candid conversation and revealed that while what happened was wrong, she has settled with Tips Music and told them that artists cannot be discounted by Artificial Intelligence.
She also revealed that she got a massive royalty cheque after Diljit Dosanjh's Choli Ke Peeche reprise and now wants him to pick more of her songs. For the unversed, Diljit not only sang the song for the Kareena Kapoor-Tabu-Kriti Sanon starrer but also as part of his popular Dil-Luminati Tour in India and overseas. She stated:
"It is wrong. But I settled with them (Tips Music) on my own. I told them just because you have access to AI (artificial intelligence) now, you can't discount artists. But after Diljit Dosanjh's Choli Ke Peechhe, I got so much royalty that I want him to pick up a few more of my songs."
Ishitta Arun, Ila's daughter, who is an actor and singer herself, recently appeared on the podcast, Cyrus Says, where she shared that her mother didn't get the kind of singing offers she deserved. However, Ila sees it in a different light and feels that it's her daughter speaking in Ishitta instead of the artist. In the same conversation with HT, Ila addressed this and stated:

"She believes that her mother has more depth than the songs she was offered to sing. Songs like Reshma, which are a part of my albums. That's her personal point of view. My take is that the industry is commercial. Whatever works sustains. If my sad numbers work, they will sustain. I have no complaints. I love the film industry, and I'm proud to be a part of the Mumbai film industry as a singer and actor. The kind of roles I want to do, I get in theatre, so that's where I invest my commitment."
