Imtiaz Ali is considered one of the best directors in the Indian film industry. Over the years, the filmmaker has directed and written cult classics like Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, Tamasha, Highway, and many more. At present, Imtiaz is counting the days until the release of his film, Amar Singh Chamkila, scheduled to be available to the public on Netflix on April 12, 2024. The filmmaker has his hands full nowadays for the promotional events of the film. In one such interaction, Imtiaz was asked to choose the better performer between two of the most talented actresses in Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.
Imtiaz worked with Kareena in the 2007 romcom, Jab We Met. Although the film was not a box-office blockbuster when it was released, as time passed, it became a cult classic in the genre and received much love from the audiences. On the other hand, Deepika Padukone starred in Cocktail, along with Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty.

The 2012 film was written by Imtiaz but was directed by Homi Adajania. Unfortunately, Cocktail failed to leave an indelible impression on the audience. So, when Imtiaz was asked during an interaction with Connect FM Canada to choose the better performer between Kareena and Deepika, he took the Jab We Met actress side, although a bit hesitantly. When he was questioned, Imtiaz said:
“Very tough but let me say Kareena because I was the director.”
Earlier, in an interview with Indian Express, Kareena Kapoor lamented that despite showcasing a wide range of her acting skills, the audience still identifies her either as ‘Poo’ from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or as ‘Geet’ from Jab We Met. The actress shared that she often asks her husband, Saif Ali Khan, why people do not recognise her for the other roles that she portrayed on the big screen. Kareena talked about her versatile performances on celluloid and said:
“I experimented with roles right from when I was 21. I did Chameli when I was 21. But people still want to go back to Poo or Geet. Omkara happened in the middle of that. I have won awards for it, and it was a role I feel I nailed. But when you talk about Omkara, you only talk about Langda Tyagi, and you still go back to Poo and Geet.”

As of now, the filmmaker is busy with promotions for his upcoming film, Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. The film is a biopic on the life of legendary Punjabi singer, Amar Singh Chamkila, who is also known as ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab. On the other hand, Kareena Kapoor is gearing up for the release of her comedy film, Crew, along with Tabu and Kriti Sanon.
