Films based on science or war have always garnered a lot of attention. Christopher Nolan’s film, Oppenheimer, is based on the life of the American scientist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, 'the father of the atomic bomb'. The film centres around the life of the scientist and his contribution to developing bombs, ‘Little Boy’ and ‘Fat Man’, that wreak havoc in Japan during World War II. The biography, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, which won the Pulitzer Prize, served as an inspiration for the film.

The film will explore the factors that led to the creation of the first nuclear weapon, the circumstances surrounding the Manhattan Project's launch during World War II, and the ups and downs in the life of American physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, popularly known as the ‘father of the atomic bomb’, for his significant contribution to the Project.

Cilian Murphy

The movie's trailer showed how America competed with the Nazis to develop the world's first nuclear bomb. 'Are we admitting there's a chance the world may end if we press that button?' Matt Damon's character says at one point in the teaser. And Cillian Murphy, who is portraying 'Oppenheimer', responds, 'Chances are close to zero.'

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan said in an interview with Associated Press that Oppenheimer contains no computer-generated images. The film was also shot in IMAX, which uses high-resolution cameras and film types to provide a world-class watching experience. Talking about the same, he said:

"The sharpness and the clarity and the depth of the image is unparalleled. The headline, for me, is by shooting on IMAX 70mm film, you’re really letting the screen disappear. You’re getting a feeling of 3D without the glasses. You’ve got a huge screen, and you’re filling the peripheral vision of the audience. You’re immersing them in the world of the film."

Oppenheimer was shot in both colour and black and white

BnW and Colour

Parts of Oppenheimer are made in colour and black and white to highlight two distinct timelines and viewpoints. In an interview with the Associated Press, Christopher said:

"I knew that I had two timelines that we were running in the film. One is in colour, and that's Oppenheimer's subjective experience. That's the bulk of the film. Then the other is a black-and-white timeline. It's a more objective view of his story from a different character's point of view."
