'Invincible' Season 4 Episode 5 Ending: Is Mark Grayson Dead? What To Expect After The Cliffhanger

Prime Video's Invincible Season 4 has just delivered one of its most brutal chapters yet, not taking it easy with the emotions, nor holding back on the action. Episode 5, titled Give Us a Moment, forces viewers to pause and absorb the fallout as characters grapple with personal conflicts just as the Viltrumite War looms.

After 'Mark Grayson' (voiced by Steven Yeun) literally goes to hell and back to understand the consequences of killing 'Rus Livingston' (Ben Schwartz), he briefly finds a sense of calm, but it quickly unravels as chaos closes in once again.

With the episode's brutal storyline and the nail-biting cliffhanger, the biggest question bugging viewers right now is whether Mark dies after his face-off against 'Conquest' (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Released on April 1, 2026, the fifth episode builds towards a long-awaited showdown. Well, the episode definitely left viewers taking a moment to process everything that happened in the story leading up to the brutal climax. After last week's relatively weak storyline, this week's episode picks right where the cliffhanger left off. As 'Atom Eve' (Gillian Jacobs) and 'Allen' (Seth Rogan) talk on the Graysons' rooftop, 'Nolan' (J.K. Simmons) and 'Mark' (Steven Yeun) reunite in a tense moment, with the former admitting regret over the Viltrumite agenda and insisting Mark was the one good thing to come from it. But Mark isn’t convinced, still hurt by his father’s lies.

Meanwhile, Nolan goes against Mark's warning and decides to apologise to 'Debbie' (Sandra Oh). In a confrontation we all could see a mile away, it's tense! With Nolan's apology, Debbie completely shuts him down and dismisses it as a meaningless attempt to fix the damage he caused. Mark ultimately decides to leave Earth and help the Coalition, and Oliver insists on joining, followed by Debbie's reluctant agreement. After one last family dinner before they leave, Mark shares a quiet moment with Eve that night.

Mark faces off against Conquest during the early stages of the Viltrumite War. Unlike their previous encounter, this time, Mark has come out stronger, more determined, and far more ruthless. Even as Conquest leaves him fatally wounded, he keeps on fighting with every bit of strength he has. The episode is hands-down one of the most brutal ones in the series, and it showed the young superhero giving his everything to protect, but at what cost?

Mark's determination to kill his opponents gives him all the strength he needed to end the big bad, aka Conquest, once and for all. His resolve to end him was something that even Conquest was not ready for, and ultimately, the Viltrumite dies. But by then, Mark has lost all his strength, left completely broken, his body severely damaged, and barely holding on. Episode 5 ends with 'Telia' (Tatiana Maslany) informing 'Thaedus' (Peter Cullen) about the attack and how she had to leave the team behind.

Does Mark die?

While there doesn't seem to be any life left in him, the good news is that Mark isn't dead, at least for now. In the final moments of the brutally heartwrenching episode, Mark still breathes, just barely. Though severely injured, he manages to show subtle signs of life when he croaks out a plea for help to his brother, Oliver, and father, Nolan (Omni-Man), indicating that he hasn't succumbed to his injuries.

However, that doesn't confirm whether he would survive the near-fatal condition, and at this point, his life hangs by a thread. What ultimately happens to his fate remains to be seen in the upcoming episode.

What happens next in Invincible Season 4?

With the brutal and devastating ending of Episode 5, it's clear that Invincible is officially entering its darkest chapter, and Mark's fate decides where the family's story is headed. Meanwhile, Nolan and Oliver remain stranded on a distant planet, and given the resilience of Viltrumites, survival becomes the most critical part of the story. For now, Mark's fate depends on whether Nolan and Oliver can save him, and if so, how quickly. At the same time, with Conquest's death, the stakes of the Viltrumite conflict have never been higher. Mark may have defeated one of their strongest warriors, but it also means that the larger war is just beginning.
