Mental Health – two words, twelve letters that most of us have been running away from since decades. While most of us fail to notice it, let alone understand it and the stigma attached to it has created a glass ceiling around it. Fortunately, with time, the discussion around mental health is spurring up day-by-day and thanks to some celebrities, they have taken a step towards removing the word 'taboo' associated with these two words and helped in creating a positive change. Celebs like Deepika Padukone, Shaheen Bhatt, Karan Singh Grover, Trishala Dutt, Navya Naveli Nanda, Shamita Shetty, Anushka Sharma, Sameera Reddy, Ileana D'Cruz, Hazel Keech Singh and others, have addressed mental health and their respective journeys with it. Now, Aamir Khan and Reena Datta’s daughter, Ira Khan shares her journey with depression. Just like for every star-kid of B-town, fans are eagerly waiting for Aamir Khan and Reena Datta’s daughter, Ira Khan to make her debut in Bollywood. However, not many of you would know that Ira had already made her debut but not in front of camera. In 2019, Ira had made her directorial debut with a theatre production, Euripides' Medea. The play was an adaptation of Euripides' Greek tragedy, Medea and had starred her brother, Junaid Khan and actress, Hazel Keech. Announcing the same on her IG handle, Ira had written, “Euripiedes' Medea. My first play. My first properly professional endeavour. I can't wait for everyone to watch it! Come and hopefully you will walk out feeling what only a great work of storytelling can make you feel.”
On Mental Health Day 2020, which is observed on October 10 every year, Ira Khan had shared her journey with depression and how she has been dealing with the same from the past four years. Ira had captioned the video as “A lot has been going on, a lot of people have a lot to say. Things are really confusing and stressful and simple and okay but not okay and... life all together. There's no way to say it all in one go. But I'd like to think I've figured some stuff out, or at least figured out how to make it slightly more understandable. About mental health and mental ill-health. So come with me on this journey... in my awkward, quirky, sometimes-baby-voice-y, as-honest-as-I-can-be... way. Let's start a conversation. Happy World Mental Health Day. #worldmentalhealthday #mentalhealth #depression #journey #letsstartaconversation.”
Speaking about her battle with clinical depression from the past four years, Ira Khan had begun her video by saying, "Hi, I'm depressed. I have been for more than four years now. I've been to a doctor and I'm clinically depressed. I'm doing much better now. For over a year now, I wanted to do something for mental health, but I wasn't sure what to do. I have decided to take you on a journey - my journey - and see what happens. Hopefully, we'll get to know ourselves and understand mental illness slightly better. I've thought of so many things to say. What should I say? Why am I doing this?" Ira had concluded with "Let's start from where I started. What do I have to be depressed about? Who am I to be depressed? I have everything, right?" (Also Read: Yo Yo Honey Singh Reveals His Family Supported Him In His Battle Against Depression And Alcoholism)

It was only a few days back when Ira Khan had revealed that she had found an alternative career option as she had ticked off another goal from her bucket list. At first, Ira had teased her fans to guess her new skill by sharing a picture of herself, which she had captioned as "#guesswhat #firsttime #newskill." Then, the budding filmmaker, Ira had revealed in her next post that she thinks she now has an ‘alternative career’ as a tattoo artist. Sharing the glimpse of her first-ever tattoo, Ira had written, “Bucket list item #5: Done. I JUST DID MY FIRST TATTOO! ME. Thanks @nupur_shikhare for trusting me and @ironbuzztattoos for making it possible. Not bad, right? I think I have an alternate career. #firsttime #tattoo #inker #inktober #artist #bucketlist #levelunlocked.” On the post, her proud mother, Reena Datta had commented, “Good job”.
On Koffee With Karan, Aamir Khan had revealed that his children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan are inclined towards a career in Bollywood. However, the doting daddy had clarified that though he will back their decision to follow their dreams, he will not create opportunities for them if they are not deserving. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Ira had revealed that she has no interest in working in front of the camera as she believes that she is more comfortable working behind-the-camera. Ira had said, "I've always felt more comfortable and enthusiastic about working off-stage or behind the camera rather than being in front of it. I've never felt the inclination to act except if it were in an action film, so I get to learn all the cool stunts. Then again, I can just learn how to do the stunts without a film to work on."
