Aamir Khan is one of the most celebrated actors in the Hindi film industry and is also known as 'Mr. Perfectionist' in Bollywood for his keen attention to detail. He has entertained audiences for years with performances in films like Raja Hindustani, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti, Ghanjini and many others. However, Aamir's complete surrender towards his work came at a personal cost which was his responsibilities towards his family. Although the actor used to be with them, his focus always lay on cinema. In the past couple of years, Aamir has often expressed guilt over his absence during his kid's childhood when they needed him the most. In a recent interview, Aamir discussed the same, and his daughter, Ira shared if she could ever forgive her father.
When Aamir Khan entertained fans with his films on the big screen, his family, especially kids, used to sometimes wait for their father during school, teenage years and other important milestones. In a new interview with Pinkvilla, Aamir Khan shared that he was lost in cinema for the past 35 years and feels guilty for it. He admitted that not getting that time back in his life feels disturbing to him. In his words:
"I was lost within the magic of films and cinema, and I realised my absence after 35 years, and I felt extremely guilty. You also realise that you are never going to get that time back, and that disturbs you."
Aamir Khan added that he doesn't try to avoid the feeling of guilt, he feels for being absent as a parent. Rather, he always prefers to deal with feelings and live with them. Similarly, when any of his films don't perform well at the box office, he feels bad, and it stays with him forever. On the other hand, his daughter, Ira, opened up about her bond with her father, Aamir and her views on forgiveness. Explaining her thoughts, Ira said:
"He takes a larger volume of blame upon himself than I actually assign to him. In my mind, the blame is also on me, and there are a few things that even I don't do well, like not knowing how to feel and express anger. I have been trying to be better in the past 2 years, and once that happens, then I can decide what exactly I am angry about, and then the forgiving can begin."
Ira Khan is one of the most vocal personalities related to the film industry who openly discusses mental health struggles. For those unaware, Ira Khan was diagnosed with depression in her 20s and realised it was triggered by multiple reasons like her parent's divorce, family history and more. Sharing how her parents often feel guilt looking at her, Ira told to Pinkvilla:
"I started my medication when I came home in 2018. During that time, I could tell that both of them were extremely worried because they were going on their own fears and tangents. And I was like, 'I am the child, I need help right now, we can deal with your fears later'. They never said that or openly blamed themselves, but I am sure they felt those things. Even though they know that it's not in their control, it's a culmination of many things. I hope they don't blame themselves."
Aamir Khan prefers to keep his personal life private but has always been honest about it. Earlier, he tied the knot with Reena Dutta in 1986, and they had two kids, son, Junaid and daughter, Ira. The ex-couple parted ways in 2002. Three years after his separation, Aamir Khan tied the knot for second time with filmmaker, Kiran Rao in 2005. They welcomed a son, Azad, via surrogacy, but the duo called it quits in 2021. Recently, on his 60th birthday, Aamir Khan shared with the media that he has again found love for the third time in his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, but has no plans for marriage as of now.
