Irfan Khan was hailed as one of the finest actor of all time. In Hindi cinema, he challenged the notion of a hero with his phenomenal acting performances, showcasing his magic to the world. However, in search of rare films and projects, Irfan got a rare disease, which is neuroendocrine cancer. Despite taking treatment for a year in the UK, he lost the battle in 2020 and left for the heavenly abode. His family was deeply saddened, and it is his older son, Babil Khan, who grew up in an instant. There was a time when Babil revealed how his father was upset with him for not learning acting from him.
Babil Khan shared an emotional moment and explained how he came to understand the importance of his father, Irfan, and his insistence on teaching him acting years after Irfan's passing. At Kommune's Spoken Fest, Babil Khan recalled the moment through his spoken poetry and revealed that his father would always be behind him, teaching him acting.
Babil would always brush him aside, which left Irfan visibly upset, as he knew that the entire world wanted to learn acting from him. People might think Babil was stupid, but for a young boy in his teen and young adulthood just believed that his baba would always be around. Babil narrated:
"Baba somehow he caught onto the desire that I want to be an actor. So, he would come to me and he'd like, 'Babilla come, we'll practice this scene.' And I would shrug him off. And I'd be like, it's okay, we'll do it tomorrow, what's the hurry? Baba was around forever. He's going to be around forever. So then life decided that it was time for Baba to move on from this world. And then, Baba, my bestest friend, my soul mate, disappeared forever from my life."
The pain of losing a father is like losing a shelter from your head. After Irfan's death, Babil became vulnerable. People trolled and called him names due to his overenthusiasm for his visible kindness and sometimes his inability to find the right words. On his father's fifth death anniversary, Babil shared a photo with him, and wrote:
"With you, without you. Life goes on, With me, without me. Soon I’ll be there. With you, not without you. And we will run together, and fly, Drink from waterfalls, pink not blue. I will hug you so tight, and I will cry, Then we’ll laugh, just like we used to. I miss you."
Babil Khan made his Bollywood debut with the 2022 film, Qala, and his performance was widely loved. He is soon going to be seen in Logout, which is a thrilling mystery drama and will also star Rasika Dugal. It is going to premiere on Zee5 on April 18, 2025.
