The much-loved and much-debated film, The Kerala Story is all set to return with a sequel. For the unversed, the original film, starring Adah Sharma hit the theatres in 2023, and it sparked major conversations online. While some appreciated the bold narrative, others raised questions on its authenticity. Well, the sequel is all set to release on February 27, 2026. Amid that, read on to know if it is based on a real-life incident.

The producer of the film, The Kerala Story 2 reveals it is inspired by real-life incidents

Recently, the producer of The Kerala Story 2, Vipul Amrutlal Shah revealed that films like this are heavily inspired by real-life incidents. He stated that the upcoming film explores how women are exploited within India. Vipul further explained that by portraying three girls, he is telling the stories of several girls, whose court cases are going on in India. According to the Hindustan Times, he was quoted as saying:

"When we make a film like The Kerala Story: Goes Beyond, we wanted it to become more representative of our all-India situation. And hence, the three stories that we selected, we could not just tell their stories. We have taken many incidents from other girls' lives and made them part of their stories. As a result, it's a story of three girls, but it also has a reflection of a lot of other stories in it."

The makers of The Kerala Story 2 visited real-life victims

Further, the producer of the film, Vipul shared that he and the makers of the film visited multiple victims to research for the film. He also explained the makers went through several court cases, FIR’s, police complaints and more to research for The Kerala Story 2. When asked about the victims, the producers shared that the team found out several media articles and through them they found about the victims, who could voluntarily help them in making the team. Vipul shared:

"We have done our research for almost six to seven months. We have met various victims. We've travelled to various parts of the country to meet victims, their parents, and people in and around. We've gone through various court orders, police, and FIRs. So a lot of research has been done. A lot of media articles became our source from which we went and chased the victims. So it was extensive research that allowed us to collect the right information. And that is how the film has been made."

The Kerala Story: Goes Beyond is the much-awaited sequel of the 2023 film, The Kerala Story. The upcoming film is all set to hit the silver screen on February 27, 2026. Reportedly, it is directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Sunshine Pictures. The film features new faces including Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia and Aishwarya Ojha. It is worth mentioning that the film is not based on a particular real-life incident, but it is based on multiple incidents that have happened in India.

For those who do not know, the original film, The Kerala Story starred Adah Sharma, Sonia Balani, Yogita Bihani and Siddhi Idnani. It focused on women allegedly being converted to another religion and then recruited into extremist groups abroad. The powerful narrative of the film earned two National Film Awards. It was also a box office success as it earned more than Rs. 300 crore.
