Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a much-loved film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur. The film was released in 2013 and became an instant hit. The film earned Rs. 318 crore worldwide. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the romantic comedy won hearts with its fun-filled storyline, strong performances and peppy tracks. While fans of the film have been speculating that the makers are planning for a sequel, here’s how Ranbir Kapoor, a.k.a 'Bunny', has reacted.

Ranbir Kapoor talks about Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani sequel

Even though it's been more than 10 years now, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani remains one of the most memorable films. Last year, in 2025, it was re-released in theatres. Now, Ranbir Kapoor, who played the role of 'Bunny' in the film, has reacted to his fans’ demand for a sequel to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. He went live on his Instagram and spoke about whether there has been any possibility of a sequel. He shared that part 1 had a perfect ending, and thus it doesn’t warrant part 2. He was quoted as saying:

"A lot of you guys want part 2, but there are so many new movies, new directors, and new ideas to work with. I think Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani had the perfect end. So I don’t think it warrants a part 2. But maybe another film would come, of a similar genre, which you guys would enjoy too."

Ranbir Kapoor once said that Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani would make a good sequel

Fans demanding a sequel to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is nothing new. Earlier, in 2024, during an interaction with fans, Ranbir Kapoor talked about it. He shared that YJHD would make a good sequel. He mentioned that the director, Ayan Mukerji, might make it in a couple of years. He also dropped a major hint about the storyline of the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani sequel. He was quoted as saying:

"I think Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani would make a good sequel. Ayan also had a very nice story, I remember, but then he went into this Brahmastra journey. But never say never. He might make it after a couple of years. I think the story will be 10 years forward, where Bunny, Naina, Avi and Aditi, where they are in their lives. I think it’ll be quite interesting and nice to explore those characters."

When Dharma Productions sparks speculation about a Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani sequel

In 2024, Dharma Productions shared a scene from the 2013 hit film, captioning the post, "Humein inse pyaar ho jaayega…phir se! #StayTuned," which left fans confused whether it was a hint for a Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani sequel or the film’s re-release. The caption is linked to a famous dialogue of 'Naina' (played by Deepika Padukone). Soon after the post surfaced online, fans flooded the comment section. One user wrote, "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani 2.0?" Another user commented, “Why am I assuming YJHD 2?" A third user wrote, "Very excited for the sequel, but please don’t spoil it." A fourth user commented, "Is it YJHD 2 or Re-release?"

When Kalki Koechlin shared that it would be hard to bring back the magic if a sequel happens

During a 2024 interview on AfterHours with All About Eve, Kalki Koechlin was asked whether there had been any possibility that the star cast of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani would return with Part 2. In reply, Kalki said that if the sequel happens, then it will be hard to bring back the magic that the original film holds. She also reacted to the rumours surrounding the follow up of the 2013 film. She was quoted as saying:

"It'll be hard to get that magic back. I have heard no such rumours. You can't make another one."
