And thanks to ace designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who introduced us to the beauty of wearing a saree all over again. At the beginning of 2018, Sabyasachi had talked about the importance of saree and how it has been associated with taboos and labels like ‘aunty ji’. In an open letter, he had written, “Let me provide some context for those of you who may not have listened to the speech I gave at Harvard. A woman had asked me to comment on the cultural taboo of young women wearing sarees because, as she said, society tells them that it ‘makes them look older’.”
While not many have understood his concern and love for saree, he definitely gave courage to many young girls to adorn their roots. On April 6, 2019, Sabyasachi celebrated 20-years of his journey with a couture show, which was attended by his favourite tinsel town divas. However, it was newly married Isha Ambani Piramal, who took our breath away and made headlines with her ensemble. Isha sashayed down the red carpet in a gorgeous black saree. And mind you, it wasn’t any usual black saree, rather it had frill detailing and the signature Sabya belt that added on to her glamour quotient. Isha, who is born with a platinum spoon and a name that speaks history, had talked about her marriage in an interview with Vogue magazine. She had shared, “The wedding went off beautifully. Like any other bride, I had my share of bridal jitters but getting married at home made it very special and I had the time of my life celebrating my most memorable moments with all the people I love. During the wedding my mom was CEO and I was chairperson. She and dad did all the hard work.”
She had further added, “Thankfully, we ended up liking the same things, so that made it a breeze. I didn’t go to a single wedding meeting. I was never someone who dreamt of how my wedding would be, yet it was wonderful in more ways than I can imagine. It was a very emotional affair for everyone in my family. I was emotional too but everyone around me would cry all the time. I only cried at my vidaai because I felt some peer pressure as everyone else was crying, especially my parents.”
Isha had also shared how life has changed post-marriage, and had revealed, “I don’t think his life has changed, and neither has mine. At this stage, work is a priority for both of us. And luckily, our parents understand that.
