Ishaan Khatter Calls His 'A Suitable Boy' Co-Star, Tabu, 'Naughty', Says Felt Safe While Shooting

Ishaan Khatter is one of the young actors in Bollywood. The actor is currently leading the headlines for his recent release The Royals. In a recent candid chat with Zoom, Ishaan shared his experience working with Bollywood actress, Tabu. For the unversed, Ishaan and Tabu worked together in a mini-series, A Suitable Boy in 2020. In the series there were some intimate scenes that featured Ishaan and Tabu.

Ishaan Khatter recalls how Tabu made him safe and secure in shooting

In the candid conversation with Zoom, Ishaan shared how, with Tabu, he felt safer to act on such intimate scenes in the mini-series. The actor mentioned that the duo never discussed what they would be doing in the scenes. Ishaan shared that the coordination and understanding level between him and Tabu, just made the scene more beautiful and realistic. In his words:

“With an actress like Tabu, honestly, it's like, you don't have to talk about it. I have to say, and this sounds, I don't know, this might sound off or something, but I was not freaked out, absolutely not. In fact, I felt safer, because I was playing off of an actor who I knew would not only understand what I'm doing, but like, take it somewhere else, and I think, that's the beauty of it with Tabu, we never had to speak about what we're doing in a scene.”

Ishaan Khatter calls Tabbu ‘naughty’

Further in the interview, Ishaan described how his and Tabu’s bond made him perform the romantic scenes of A Suitable Boy seamlessly. The actor also addressed his co-star as ‘naughty’. Ishaan also shared how fun it was for him to act opposite Tabu. The actor mentioned how the two had a conversation through their eyes. Recalling his shooting days with Tabu, Ishaan said:

“She is very naughty, she's like a child on set. She could be making a joke, and then suddenly, she could be like this character, so like, I think it was fun, just so much fun working with her because so much of what we do is, of course, you bring the words to life, but so much of what we do is, how do you make a moment dense? How do you make it come alive? How do you communicate more without saying anything? And it just happened, like, seamlessly with Tabu, you know, it was just like a conversation with our eyes.”

The 2017 British television drama series, A Suitable Boy, was directed by Mira Nair. The series was adapted by Andrew Davies from the 1993 novel, A Suitable Boy, written by Vikram Seth. The mini-series premiered on BBC One from July 26, 2020, to August 24, 2020. 

Later, on October 23, 2020, the six-episode series was released on the OTT platform, Netflix. The main character of the series is ‘Lata’ played by Tanya Maniktala. Along with Tanya, the series also stars Tabu, Ishaan Khatter, Rasika Dugal, Mahira Kakkar, Ram Kapoor, Namit Das, Vivaan Shah, Mikhail Sen, Danesh Rizvi, Shahana Goswami, Ranvir Shorey, Vijay Varma and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in prominent roles.
