It: Welcome To Derry just dropped episode 5, which is titled Neibolt Street, and the wait is over as the scary clown is out there in the Derry woods. Yes! The show, which successfully built up the tension, finally brought 'Pennywise' into the action. What happened in episode 5 of the horror series surely had layers: a death, a link to Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, 'Matty's arrival from death (or maybe a tarp), and a lot took place in the episode, and people cannot just stop talking about the same. The episode let the tension hang in the air towards the end with a cliffhanger. So, what exactly happened in episode 5 of It: Welcome To Derry? Hold your seatbelts tight, and be prepared for the spoilers ahead!
It: Welcome To Derry episode 5 began with 'Lily' trying to make her group believe that 'Marge' wanted to help, to which 'Ronnie' wasn't even convinced. 'Marge' actually left Petty Cakes and realised that 'Lilly' is her best friend. Well, soon after the entire group encountered 'Matty', who was missing. 'Matty' asked for help from his friends, revealing that 'IT' is real, which sleeps during the day and feeds at night, which helped him to escape from the sewers.

When 'Matty's friend wanted him to reach out to the officers and reveal the truth, he refused, stating that they would hand him over to his abusive father, and also shared that 'Phill' is still alive. When the kids were descending down the sewers, the valium that the kids had from 'Lily's mother' helped. Well, to mention 'Matty' wasn't alive, and it was actually 'Pennywise's trap. And how did the kids get that? When they were down the sewers, they found 'Susie, 'Phil', and 'Teddy's dead bodies floating in the water. 'Lily' later discovered 'Matty's body in the water, and well, 'Pennywise's trap was exposed, as he appeared in the clown form, successfully bringing the kids into his territory.

Things got even more complicated when the military team entered the sewers, using the Well House in Neibolt Street. Well, 'Taniel' was provided with the magical dagger from his ancestors, which was given to him by 'Rose' to protect himself from 'Pennywise'. However, it was 'Leory Hanlon' started to have a vision and asked 'Pauly' not to believe any of it. However, when 'Hanlon' saw his son, 'Will', thinking him to be a vision, shot him. 'Will' was not a vision, which was cleared by the fact that 'Pauly' could simply see him. To save 'Will', 'Pauly' jumped, and the bullet hit him, causing him to die.

'Lily' remained captivated in 'Pennywise's terror, but it was 'Taniel' who dropped the dragger in the water, which was the only thing that 'Pennywise' was scared of. It was made from the parts of the stars. Well, 'Lilly' could have had the dagger in her hand, which made her save herself. So, in the following episodes, we can expect that the kids will use this dragger to stay away from 'Pennywise's terror.

Another twisting scene in this episode was a reference to Stephen King's Doctor Sleep. When 'Dick Hallorann' enters the sewers, 'Pennywise' messes with his mind, forcing him to open the mental box. The mental box is a place in 'Dick's mind where he keeps his traumatic memories locked. When he came near 'Pennywise', he started getting visions from childhood about his abusive grandfather. Even though he left the sewer physically, he remained stuck in the sewer mentally, which will be explored in later episodes. On the other hand, 'Hank', who was blamed for the theatre massacre, was shown with 'Mrs Kresh', who helped him to escape. So, it all ends up being a matter of hanging in the air about what might happen in the next episodes.
