Bollywood’s 'Jaggu Dada' is now a godfather to the children who spent days and nights in the slum areas in Mumbai. Jackie assures them by taking care of their food and the hospital's needs. Jackie started this noble work of looking after the poor people when he himself was penniless.
Jaikishan Kakubhai Shroff, aka Jackie Shroff, was born on February 1, 1957, near the Teen Batti area in Mumbai and lived in a chawl for 33 years. Despite being the son of a businessman, Jackie had to spend his childhood days in a single room in a Mumbai chawl. Jackie was a school dropout due to extreme poverty in his family. After completing class 11, the veteran actor started taking up odd jobs ranging from selling peanuts outside the theatre halls to being a flight attendant. Jackie also worked as a travel agent.
As per Matribhumi reports, the veteran actor once recalled his days spent in the chawl. Jackie shared how he used to stand in long queues outside the toilet. Recalling the same, Jackie was quoted as saying:
“We had public toilets, just three for all the families in our building. Every morning, I had to stand in a long queue with a mug in my hand, waiting for my turn. If I had to reach school or work early, I had to wake up even earlier just to secure my spot in the queue.”

The journey from Bollywood’s Jackie Shroff to 'Jaggu Dada' was quite an emotional one. Jackie’s elder brother, Hemant, was known as Dada in the chawl for his noble works. One such incident took away Hemant’s life, when Jackie was just 10 years old. Hemant was trying to save a boy from drowning when the tragic incident happened. To honour his elder brother’s brave act, friends started calling him 'Jaggu Dada'.
But now, little do people know about Jackie’s noble work that made him the godfather in the slum areas of Mumbai. Every child out in the streets has the superstar’s phone number. Jackie is taking care of nearly 100 underprivileged families, starting from the Teen Batti area in Mumbai to Pali Hill, Mumbai.
The actor holds an account at Nanavati Hospital for the poor people. Jackie is just one call away whenever the children in the slums need him. They said Jackie told them to call him at night if they feel hungry, and he will arrange food for them. As per reports, the veteran actor spends half of his savings on the welfare of these unprivileged families.
Jackie made his first screen appearance with the film, Swami Dada and then made his debut as a lead actor with the film, Hero. According to the GQ India report, now, the Bollywood superstar’s net worth is around Rs. 212 crore. He owns an 8 BHK bungalow whose worth is Rs. 31.5 crores. Being an ardent car lover, the actor has four-wheelers like Bentley Continental GT, BMW M5, and Jaguar SS 100.
