Jasleen Royal is a popular playback singer in India who became famous after she lent her voice to soulful tracks like Heeriye, Ranjha, Din Shagna Da, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and more. These songs became a country-wide rage and they were played at every second wedding in India. But when Jasleen sang the same heartfelt songs at the prestigious Coldplay concert in Mumbai, she faced immense backlash. Apart from netizens, several industry insiders questioned her ability to perform at such a big event in the country. After staying silent over it for a long time, Jasleen recently addressed the backlash that came her way for the first time.
Recently, Jasleen Royal released a new mini-documentary, Dare To Dream, showcasing her behind-the-scenes journey at the Coldplay concerts. When the internationally admired music band announced their Indian concert, fans were delighted. However, when Jasleen opened their show in Mumbai on Day 1, netizens slammed her performance online. What was supposed to be a milestone in her career became a nightmare for the singer, and the mini-documentary showed how she was upset over it.
The moni documentary shared her Day 2 experience, revealing that Jasleen's in-ears faced a technical issue on the previous day, and a team member apologised to her for it. Subsequently, Jasleen opened up about the pressure she felt during the conversation and got emotional. Sharing her feelings, she said:
"After a certain point, I can feel like it's time to go home. There's a lot of pressure. I'll die. I swear I'll die. I am still processing. It was a lot to process."
In the mini-documentary, Jasleen was seen hugging her parents amid the emotional moment, and they tried to cheer her up before her second-day performance. The next scene showcased Jasleen addressing the crowd before the second-day performance. She admitted on the stage that she had been nervous about her performance but expressed gratitude to fans for keeping faith in her. Talking about how she didn't want people to feel that she was undeserving of the opportunity, Jasleen said in another segment:
"I am nervous. I don't want people to think that she didn't deserve to be here. Or 'Why is she here? We just want Coldplay. We don't like her music.' I am a self-taught musician. So, I know I am not perfect. I keep learning every day. I try to better myself every day. But I try to put up a great show where people have a great experience. I'm just trying to put out my best effort, and they also feel that it was a good opening act we selected from India. And that's all the pressure I'm taking."
Previously, singer, Antara Mitra shared a story on her Instagram handle with Jasleen's photo from the concert and called her out for her performance. She indirectly took a dig and mentioned that someone based on her singing should have been selected, not one based on numbers. Vishal Dadlani shared a cryptic note that many believed was directed to Jasleen. He didn't mention any name but noted that a 'basic-to-bad singer's' performance has been embarrassing for the country after the Heeriye singer was trolled on social media.
