Javed Akhtar belonging to poets and writers family and being a writer himself has swooned us with his words and verses. His words lend us a voice to express our love, so imagine, what impact his words would have been on his own love life. Javed ji, who was earlier married to Honey Irani had decided to part his ways as he had fallen in love with Urdu poet, Kaifi Azmi’s daughter and celebrated actress, Shabana Azmi. Like a typical Bollywood love story, Shabana ji’s parents were against their relationship, but fighting all the odds, the two tied the knot in 1984 and since then, they have been each other’s pillar of strength. In January, Shabana ji had met with a horrible accident, recalling the same, now, Javed ji has shared how frightened he was at that very moment.
On January 18, 2020, veteran actress, Shabana Azmi had suffered a horrible accident when her car had collided with a truck on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. In a conversation with Film Companion’s Anupama Chopra, Javed Akhtar, who was in a joint interview with Shabana Azmi from their home revealed his dreaded thoughts after seeing his wife’s crashed car. He said, “Who could think we would have such a calamity. The accident that Shabana went through was really deadly. We were in the other car, she was sleeping in the car behind us and when this accident occurred and we went back, the first thought was ‘Is she alive?’ Because the whole car was crushed, had become a heap of junk. Somehow we took her out, she was unconscious with blood all over her face and it was only from the nose. There were no wounds but the whole body has taken such a whiplash, that it will take a little time to be totally normal.”
It was on January 17, 2020, a day before the accident, that Bollywood’s ace lyricist-cum-poet-cum-screenwriter had turned 75 and had celebrated his special day with his friends and family. On January 16, 2020, Javed Akhtar had hosted a retro-themed birthday bash in Mumbai, where Javed ji and Shabana ji had come in a polka-dotted red and white attire. Many A-listers of Bollywood had marked their presence for the same. Javed ji’s son, Farhan Akhtar and his girlfriend, Shibani Dandekar had also recreated of his song's look from the movie, Don, as they had dressed up as Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman. On April 13, 2020, in a Facebook Live chat, Shabana Azmi had narrated a ‘delightful’ incident when her husband, Javed Akhtar was having soup but had spilled it more than drinking. Shabana ji had reprimanded him, “Javed, iss tarah tum khaoge toh kitna tum giraoge?” Giving a hilarious twist to the song, Abhi Naa Jao Chhod Ke, Javed ji had continued, “Jo iss tarah se khaoge, toh kitna tum giraoge. Joh soup iss pe gir gaya, toh jaante toh hoga kya?
