Once Jaya candidly opened up about her daughter-in-law, Aishwarya and praised her qualities.

During her appearance on Koffee With Karan, Jaya Bachchan talked about her daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and praised her. She said that she has always loved Aishwarya as despite being a big star herself, the latter never tries to push herself. Jaya added that Aishwarya is quiet, and she listens to whatever they tell her, which makes her fit into the Bachchan family perfectly. In her words:
“She is lovely. I love her. I have always loved her. She’s such a big star herself. But when we are all together, I have never seen her push herself. I like that quality. I like that she stands behind. She is quiet, she listens, and she’s taking it all in. And another beautiful thing is she’s fitted in so well.”
Jaya Bachchan's expressions were enough to prove how much she adored her daughter-in-law, Aishwarya, back then. However, the veteran actress' remark 'fits perfectly well' caught the host, Karan Johar's attention, and he asked, “Into the family?” To which, Jaya beautifully replied:
“Yes, not just into the family. She knows this is family, these are good friends, and this is how one is supposed to be. And I think she’s doing well.”
Jaya Bachchan beamed with pride and looked content while talking about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Well, Karan Johar also took notice of the same and asked Jaya if Aishwarya Rai was the ideal Mrs Abhishek Bachchan, and she replied:
“I think so.”

While Jaya Bachchan made those remarks about Aishwarya Rai with good vibes and intention, it did not sit right with the netizens. As the video resurfaced on Instagram, the users called out Jaya for being a suppressing woman. While one user penned, “Toxicity with such grace”, another commented, “Stands behind wow”. A third comment can be read as “Typical MIL. Keep quiet, don’t talk much, stand behind.” Another netizen commented, “Standing behind! They made Miss World stand behind and they are proud of it lol! Suppressing women is a Victorious story in a patriarchal society!”
