Bollywood actor, Abhishek Bachchan is happily married to actress, Aishwarya Rai and has a daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. However, not many know that once upon a time, Abhishek was in a serious relationship with Karisma Kapoor, and the duo was even engaged to each other. Jaya Bachchan was so smitten by Karisma that she even announced her son's engagement with her at a grand event on Amitabh Bachchan's 60th birthday.
An old video of Jaya Bachchan has resurfaced on Reddit, wherein she was seen introducing Karisma Kapoor as the future daughter-in-law of the Bachchan family, which now spread like wildfire. The video was from a mega event which was organised to celebrate Big B's 60th birthday, and it was attended by the media and several bigwigs from B-Town. Jaya can be heard saying:
"The Bachchan family, with the Nanda family, welcome another family to our group, and that's the Kapoors. Randhir and Babita Kapoor, and to-be my daughter-in-law, Karisma Kapoor. That's Abhishek's gift to his parents on his father's 60th birthday."

In the video, Karisma Kapoor looked beautiful in an ivory-hued salwar kameez, and she was seen blushing as she posed with the Bachchan family on the stage. Though the throwback video from 2002 showed Karisma being formally announced as the would-be bahu of the Bachchan family, their engagement was called off in a few months. However, the reason behind the breakup was not shared. And after a few years, Abhishek and Karisma were married to their respective partners, and their relationship is now long forgotten.

Now that the video is going viral on the internet, netizens are in utter shock as some of them were not aware that Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor were engaged once. Reacting to the video, one user penned, "Wow. Didn't knew it had gone till official announcement level. Was under the impression that it was only newspaper rumours. What happened then? Why the change of heart?" Meanwhile, another one wrote, "After declaring marriage at a public platform in a royalle way, what went so wrong that it was called off?"

When Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan's wedding was called off abruptly, there were many speculations regarding their split. If reports are to be believed, the real reason behind their sudden called-off wedding was Karisma's mother, Babita Kapoor, who wanted a stable and secure life for her daughters. As there was a huge difference in Karisma and Abhishek's career graph, Babita was reluctant to their marriage. Moreover, the Bachchans were undergoing huge financial losses back then, so to financially secure her daughter, Babita wanted a prenup to be signed, which was not accepted by Big B.
After her broken engagement with Abhishek Bachchan, Karisma Kapoor tied the knot with Sunjay Kapur in 2003. However, the two had a troublesome married life, and later, Karisma filed a divorce from him in 2014. Fast forward to today, Karisma is co-parenting her kids, Samaira and Kiaan, with her ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur. For the unversed, once Karisma's dad, Randhir Kapoor opened up about his daughter's marriage and revealed that he never wanted her to marry Sunjay and even called him a third-class man. He also added that Sunjay did no good to Karisma as he was only involved in drinking and violence.
