Lauren Sanchez's Wedding Gown Took 900 Hours To Make, Inspired By Sophia Loren's Look In 'Houseboat'

One of the richest men in the world, Jeff Bezos, is the founder of Amazon and has a net worth of billions of dollars. Showcasing his immense wealth, the Amazon founder has married his girlfriend and licensed pilot, Lauren Sanchez, after a whirlwind romance. The couple tied the knot in a dreamy and grand ceremony in Venice. Everything about this wedding exuded luxury, including Lauren's bridal gown, which was meticulously planned and exquisitely crafted. Moreover, the Dolce and Gabbana wedding gown was planned by none other than the founder of the brand, Domenico Dolce.

Lauren Sanchez's wedding gown was inspired by 1950s Hollywood actress, Sophia Loren

Lauren Sanchez wanted to look timeless and classic at her wedding, like a modern version of a 1950s bride, she stated in an interview with Vogue. And who better for inspiration than the timeless Hollywood beauty, Sophia Loren? The inspiration was drawn from the wedding scene in the 1958 movie Houseboat, which featured Sophia in a white wedding gown with intricate lace work from the train to high up around the neck. The famous wedding gown worn in the movie also featured full sleeves, was made of lace, and had covered buttons extending up to the neck. Lauren said when she saw the Sophia Loren wedding gown:

"I wanted to reflect back, and I saw Sophia Loren and her hands were like this (imitates a prayer position) and she was in high lace, up to the neck, and I said, 'That’s it. That’s the dress'."

Lauren Sanchez's wedding gown was made by 180 hands and planned for over a year

While dining with Domenico Dolce, the co-founder of the luxury fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana, Lauren Sanchez discussed her wedding gown with him. This was one and a half years before the wedding. After an extensive planning process of over a year, Lauren's wedding gown of dreams was crafted by 180 hands, which is approximately 90 crafters. Moreover, 900 hours of work went into making the dress. The end result was a beautiful white lace gown, featuring a mermaid silhouette on the front and a long train on the back, with buttons and lace extending all the way up to the neck and gorgeous, long lace sleeves. For her jewellery, Lauren wore a pair of exquisite Dolce & Gabbana Alta Gioielleria Miracolo earrings, which were also her 'something borrowed'. The light makeup and swept-up curls added stars to Lauren's wedding look. Talking about this look, she said:

"It is a departure from what people expect...from what I expect — but it’s very much me".
