Jemimah Rodrigues, at the age of 25, got Australia down on their knees. She was unbeaten as her innings of 127 runs has created history, giving the women in yellow their first loss in the 16 ODI World Cup games. However, Jemimah's efforts made the Indian women's cricket team reach the ICC ODI World Cup finals. However, for Jemimah it has been years of practice, missing family vacations, toiling at Azad Maidan, formerly called as Bombay Gymkhana in Mumbai.
Jemimah fought a lot of setbacks to make Team India make a mark at the World Cup finals. Her dad, Ivan Rodrigues, has been her first coach, and Jemimah shared how her father started coaching her when she was four years old. Apart from regularly attending her school, St Joseph in Mumbai, Jemimah recently, in an interview with Khaane Mein Kya Hai, told the host, Kunal Vijayakar, how she used to miss vacations to practice at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Jemimah recollected:
"Growing up my dad was and is my coach. I was 4 when I started playing with a season ball. He used to be the one forcing me. After Church on Sundays my cousins used to go home, enjoy and chill. As a 4 year old you want to enjoy. I used to miss family vacations because cricket happens in summer, that is the peak. I used to be at Azad Maidan at one corner practicing whereas my cousins, family and friends had gone out. I was scared of dada."

Jemimah's cricket journey was no less than extraordinary. She picked up the bat when her cousins and friends used to enjoy the summer vacations. Her efforts made her reach the Indian Women's Cricket Team. Jemimah's dad, Ivan, earlier in an interview with The Indian Express, described her win with a biblical reference of David vs Goliath, referring to the tense battle and shared:
“I always believed in her capabilities. That David vs Goliath story is so apt — the little David, Jemimah, proved herself under pressure against the mighty Goliath, the Aussies. A lot of hard work has gone into her preparation right from her childhood . It was God’s favor and kindness that this victory came at the right time and against the strongest team."

According to a report by The New Indian Express, Jemimah studied in an all-girls school where she matured from a young girl to a confident lady. Her faith in the higher power strengthened as she was coached by her father, Ivan and also Prashant Shetty. Reportedly, she was fluctuating been cricket and hockey till the time she became of an age where she could decide on which sport she liked the most. Jemimah was also dropped from the 2022 edition of the cricket tournament, which could have been her first ODI World Cup. Her career went low, and in a press statement, she shared her self-doubts, anxiety creeping in. Jermimah shared:
"I was going through a lot of anxiety at the start of the tournament. Even before some matches, I used to call my mum and cry — cry the entire time — just to let it all out. When you are going through anxiety, you feel numb. You don’t know what to do. You’re trying to be yourself. During that time, my mum and dad supported me a lot.”
