F.R.I.E.N.D.S. will always be one of the iconic sitcoms that never get old. The sitcom garnered a huge global audience and remains one of the much-loved works of the six actors, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer. The portrayal of each character, along with the background that revolves around the lives and love between six friends in NYC, stirred a special something in the fans' hearts, which remains fresh even today. In 2023, Matthew Perry, who played the comic role of 'Chandler', died, and it left people in shock and heartbroken.
The F.R.I.E.N.D.S. cast always stated that they remained more like family to each other throughout and even after the sitcom, and thus, Matthew Perry's demise surely made them grieve for a long time. Now, Jennifer Aniston, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, revealed that while Matthew died, all five of them actually mourned him even before that. For the unversed, Matthew struggled with addiction issues for a long time, and his death was caused by the acute effects of the anaesthetic ketamine.
Talking about the same, Jennifer recently mentioned that all of them tried to help Matthew. She shared that they were mourning for him for a long time, because of the battle he had been fighting with that disease, which was tough for the actor, his co-stars and his fans. Jennifer stated that there's a part of her that now feels that this is better; he is at peace. Jennifer could be quoted as saying:
"We did everything we could when we could. “But it almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight. As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better."
After Matthew Perry's passing, Jennifer Aniston took to her Instagram handle and penned a heartfelt note to express her grief and love for her co-star and 'Friend'. She penned how his passing has cut deep. She also shared how Matthew always wanted to make people laugh, as he felt that if he didn't hear 'laughter', he would die.
Jennifer stated that she would always hold on to the memories of them, and also expressed her gratitude for having known someone so closely and loving them. She also shared a text she received from Matty, wherein he penned a cute text, stating that making Jen laugh made his day. Such a wonderful tribute surely brought tears to our eyes, recalling our beloved 'Chandler'.

Matthew Perry, in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir, talked extensively about his life. He also shared that he had a crush on Jennifer, as he was taken by her at first sight. The duo knew each other even before the filming for their sitcom began. However, he asked Jen on a date, which she declined, stating that they could be friends. Years later, after some awkwardness between the two, they could finally be each other's close friends. In the same memoir, he also mentioned that throughout his battle of addiction, Jen was the one among the five who contacted him the most.
