'Jewel Thief' Movie Review: Saif Ali Khan-Jaideep Ahlawat's 'Dully Executed' Heist Fails To Dazzle

Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat have been making the headlines with their recent release, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins. The fans were extremely excited to see the film, which was released on Netflix on April 25, 2025. However, it seems like they were left unimpressed.

Saif Ali Khan made his return to the screen with the film after the horrible attack on him in January 2025. However, what was supposed to be his big return, turned out to be a shocking cliche. The film was based on a face-off between our beloved Saif, who played the role of the thief, and the mobster, played by Jaideep Ahlawat. Unfortunately, despite being phenomenal actors, the duo failed to create a buzz. 

The film began and concluded in a manner similar to many other heist films throughout the history of the film industry. It had the faces, the aesthetics, and the storyline, yet it lacked the non-stop thrills of a high-stakes, high-on-adrenaline robbery the film was about. For many viewers, the film seemed a little mindless, but others were entertained by the world of diamond mafias and museum heists.

All in all, the film had an extremely predictable storyline, with no out-of-the-box thinking. And while the audience wants to applaud the makers for their effort, fans believe that there was a lot more potential than what was delivered to them. Had it not been for the spectacular actors, the film might have faded into obscurity in comparison.

It has been a day since the film was released, and netizens have been sharing their views on it. A user penned, "#JewelThief … this thief ROBS you of logic, patience and any hope for a coherent plot. A classic example of style without substance. Interesting and talented cast fail to impress due to not so interesting script and dull execution." Another said, " Plus: Saif acting. Jaideep Rocks. Twisty 2nd half keeps us hooked. Stylish visuals & slick action. Few fun one-liners. Minus: Forgettable songs. Logic dips (Prince on a flight?). Flat cop track. Weak climax. The UK bit felt extra." A user penned, "Jewel Thief takes you back to a simpler time when films didn't try to be anything more than films. No jingoistic roars, no pride presentations. Just a hero, a villain, a girl and a quest." Another wrote, "#JewelThief is a nice to watch with stylish cinematography and superb colour grading, #SaifAliKhan steal the show. His charm is on top. #nikitadutta is flawless and @JaideepAhlawat is also good." A user commented, "A film with potential that gets buried under convoluted plotting, underdeveloped characters, and a glaring lack of cohesion.
