ABC had announced that it will be suspending late-night host, Jimmy Kimmel, indefinitely after he made some extremely controversial and insensitive comments about the fatal shooting of right-wing influencer, Charlie Kirk. The incident led to widespread backlash, with calls for both an apology and potential action against the comedian. However, now ABC has decided to reinstate Jimmy, and here is why he may have made the call.

ABC reinstates Jimmy Kimmel

It was on September 18, 2025, when ABC announced that it would be suspending Jimmy Kimmel. However, not even a week later, the network has made another statement reinstating Jimmy Kimmel's show after a week-long suspension. According to the statement, the show is set to return on September 23, 2025.

For the unversed, ABC suspended the late-night host after his comments on the death of Charlie Kirk were deemed 'insensitive and ill-timed'. Now, in their latest statement, they have stated:

"Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return to the show on Tuesday."

ABC reinstated Jimmy Kimmel after suffering a USD 4 billion loss?

After the makers shared the statement concerning Jimmy Kimmel's reinstatement, reports have circulated that Disney might have made the decision after losing a significant amount. 'BoycottABC' and 'BoycottDisney' had been trending ever since the row, and many social media users posted that they were cancelling their Disney subscriptions. Some users went so far as to claim that Disney lost nearly USD 4 billion over the decision to suspend 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' 

Nonetheless, there is no concrete evidence to support this claim. While several people cancelled their subscription, there are no records of an exact figure on how much loss the company endured as a result, which is in the public domain. However, ever since the decision was made, the share prices of Walt Disney & Co. dropped by 1.9 per cent, resulting in a USD 3.87 billion loss. Though this drop coincided with the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC, there is no direct link between the two.

What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Charlie Kirk?

Jimmy Kimmel's night show on September 15, 2025, was centred around the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk. All was going well, but during his monologue, he accused the 'MAGA gang' of exploiting the tragic death for political gains. Jimmy further mocked the national response to the incident, particularly criticising the act of lowering flags to half-mast in Charlie's honour. He called the response immature and compared it to that of a child who had just lost their pet. He was quoted as saying:

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterise this kid (Robinson) who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it."
