The popular Indian actor, Jimmy Sheirgill had recalled the incident when his father had cut all ties with him for almost a year after the 'Mohabbatein' actor had hurt his religious sentiments.

The popular Bollywood actor, Jimmy Sheirgill was born on December 3, 1970, into a well-educated family of Sikh aristocracy. Not many are aware of the fact that Jimmy Sheirgill's great-aunt was Amrita Sher-Gil, who is often regarded as one of the greatest avant-garde women artists of the early 20th century. However, the actor had made his way into the Hindi film industry right from scratch, with no links and a lot of auditions.

The actor had made his acting debut with the film, Maachis, which was directed by Gulzar, which helped him gain Aditya Chopra's attention, and he was cast in the film, Mohabbatein, since then he has never looked back. Apart from his successful acting career, Jimmy Sheirgill has been involved in a lot of controversies in his career. One such incident was when his parents and relatives cut all ties with him after he hurt their religious sentiments. In a throwback interview with a leading media portal, Jimmy had opened up about it and shared the whole story!

In an interview with The Times Of India, Jimmy Sheirgill was asked about his equation with his father, Satyajit Singh Sheirgill. Answering this, he had stated that his family had always been supportive of his decisions. However, the actor had stated that one incident had almost ended his relationship with his parents and relatives. Recalling the same, Jimmy had revealed that he was turbaned till the age of 18. But during his time in the hostel, the actor had found it extremely difficult to manage his long hair. Thus he had decided to cut them. After which, his parents and other family members had broken all ties with him. He had said:

"I wore a turban till I was about 18, till it became really difficult for me to manage washing and wearing one in a hostel. Of course, it was many other things too but I asked my dad casually on one of his trips to my hostel and decided to cut my hair one day. Not just my parents, but my entire family did not talk to me for a year-and-a-half properly after that except for my one mama who had also cut his hair before me."

Going further in the interview, Jimmy Sheirgill had also talked about his father, Satyajit Singh Sheirgill's reaction to his decision of becoming an actor in the Hindi film industry. The Maachis actor had revealed that his cousin, Suminder had advised his father that Jimmy should try his luck in acting. The actor had stated:

"I have this cousin Suminder who is my bua's son and is ten years older. He owned this store where he sold collections of the top designers in Delhi and thus in some way he was well connected to both the designers as well as well-known people who would buy from his store. He convinced my father how he thought I should get into movies."

Jimmy Sheirgill had also stated that after he had gone to Mumbai to try his luck in the film industry, his father had thought that he would be back in less than ten days. However, with his immense hard work and dedication, Jimmy managed to create a name for himself in the industry. Recalling the same, he had revealed:

"My family thought that I wouldn't last for even 15 days given the change in my lifestyle, but I did. Of course, my family supported me throughout both emotionally and financially."
